Henry John Vermeern

Henry "Hank" John, Vermeern, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. Hank was born on May 23, 1928, in Kimberly, Wisconsin, to John and Marie (Vander Logt) Vermeern. He spent his youth there and after graduation from high school, he served in the U.S. Army. After his military time, he attended and graduated from Marquette University. He spent his entire career as a salesman in the paper industry, which ultimately brought him to Richmond. Hank was passionate about his Catholic faith, his extended family (and all he considered "family"), his job while he was working and his retirement when he wasn't, North Litchfield Beach, taking his daily walks, the Packers and just having a good time. One of his favorite roles was that of being "Bumpa" to his grandchildren, Megan and Sarah Sylvia, Kelly (Kyle) Popp, Max (Erin) Vermeern and his great-grandchildren, Jackson and Rylee Popp. In addition to his grandchildren, Hank is survived by his daughter, Sue Sylvia; son, Fred; his daughter-in law, Cindy Vermeern; son, Mark; his daughter-in–law, Effie Hancock; son, Tom; daughter-in-law, Deb Vermeern; ex-wife, Shirley (Lecker) Vermeern; sister, Gert Tingley; and a host of nieces and nephews he adored. Also to cherish his memory is his dear friend, Fredricka Gucz, who shared 15 years of his retirement in Pawleys Island, until his Alzheimers Disease made it necessary for him to relocate back home. He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Bill Vermeern; and his sisters, Tootsie Polzin, Lecie Bruehl, Tress Brittnacher, Pinky Popp, Maggie Zarnow; and brother, Jack Vermeern. Hank was very fortunate to have his final chapter being cared for by the wonderful, loving staff at Windsor Senior Living. The family will receive friends at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229, on Friday, March 23, from 5 to 8 pm. Funeral and burial will be private at later date.
