Frank Gruen Obituary


GRUEN, Frank
Born July 22, 1912 in Altenkirchen, Germany, the third child of Julius and Johanna Grunebaum. Passed away in his sleep August 28, 2004. He attended the University of Heidelburg and Bonn until his education was curtailed by Nazi Germany's Nuremberg laws. He met the love of his life Rachel Ullman in Amsterdam and pursued her to Palistine, where they were married on July 12, 1936. They emigrated to the United States in February of 1938. During WWII Frank worked as a machinist at several defense plants, after the war he worked for Lockeed Aircraft, General Water Heater, and had his own ice cream business. In 1951 while holding a full time job he returned to his college studies graduating with a B.S. Degree in Accounting in 1960 and completed a Masters Degree in Public Administration in 1966. He retired as Supervision Auditor for the Bureau of Milk Stabilization for the California Department of Agriculture on July 22, 1977. He is survived by his son Jules Gruen, his daughter in-law Diann Gruen and his grandchildren Joseph and Johanna Gruen. In lieu of flowers, remembrances should be sent to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Interment will take place at the Home of Peace Cemetery, 6200 Stockton Blvd., Sunday, September 5, 2004, at 9:00AM.
