DAN EASTMAN Obituary

Dan Robert Eastman 3/12/1946 ~ 6/8/2010 Our beloved family patriarch, Dan Robert Eastman, passed away Tuesday evening, June 8, 2010. He was born March 12, 1946 in Salt Lake City to Afton Joyce Bowen and Robert Charles Eastman. Most of his years of education were spent in the Davis County School District with graduation from Bountiful High School in 1964. He enjoyed participating in student government, football, and track. He attended Weber State University, and Utah State University where he met his wife, Claudette Crawford. Dan was very patriotic and loved his years of service in the Utah National Guard. His early career years were spent in the Banking industry in Southern Nevada, Southern Utah, and the Salt Lake area. He ultimately bought the Jeep dealership in Bountiful which he remodeled and operated for nearly 20 years. He loved his employees and felt great satisfaction in giving outstanding service to his customers. His entire life was spent in service both in public and private ways. At the age of 22, he served as Chairman of the Bunkerville Town Board. He served on the Davis County School Board, the Utah Transportation Commission, and represented District 23 as a Utah State Senator. Many people who were both friends and strangers were helped by Dan, usually never knowing where it came from. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many organizations throughout his life. Dan married Claudette Crawford on November 17, 1966 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized the St. George temple on September 4, 1973. They are parents of five children: Erin (Troy) Wilson, Danielle (Sharif) Hadley, Maegen (Brent) Martineau, Robert Eastman, and Drew (Ashley) Eastman. He was also a proud Grandpa, "papa", of twelve: Haley Eastman, Caden Hadley, Courtney Hadley, Isabella Hadley, Ashley Hartvigsen, Tanner Hartvigsen, Paige Martineau, Wyatt Martineau, Sophie Eastman, Ryann Eastman, Jaxson Eastman, and Tyson Eastman. Dan's greatest joy came from spending time with his family at their ranch in Veyo, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Joyce Eastman, and grandparents, James and Afton Bowen, and Fred and Lena Mae Eastman. We will miss you Dad!! Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Bountiful Utah Central Stake Center, 640 South 750 East. Dear Claudette and family, It broke my heart to see Dan's picture on the news after returning home from travel. I'm very sorry to have missed his funeral. You can add me to the long list of people whom Dan helped and touched over the years. He always had a "pat on the back" that made me feel more confident and feel better about whatever was going on in the world. His kindness and generosity inspired anyone who worked with him to be a better person. I share in your great sense of loss.

I used to sit in the break room at the dealership and do my homework, and Dan would stop in and ask what subject I was working on. He always bought whatever little things my school was selling. What a kind-hearted man!
To the family - I'm so sorry! I know first-hand that words can't heal this. Although it may be hard to see, God always has his reasons, he needed Dan back!
Sending love, Nicole (Maestas) Larsen - Kelli's daughter

Claudette & Family,

We were stunned to learn of Dan's passing and in the last few days have reflected on wonderful times, experiences and memories with your husband, father and grandpa. We loved Robbie’s account of Dan catching his “hair” on fire. I can still hear his snoring at a Fathers & Sons outing on Antelope Island. What made that remarkable was the fact Dan was more than 50 yards downwind, in a terrible storm, sharing a tent with Drew and the Doty’s.

We love you all and pray that your memories of this good man, combined with the Gospel Truths will provide you with peace and the strength to continue his Legacy. We mourn with you and know of our love, support and deepest sympathy.

I was a parent chaperone on an elementary field trip to the State Capitol during the legislature session a few years ago. The 5th grade class had the opportunity to ask questions of Senator Eastman. He was so patient with the children! He treated them with respect, answered their questions at a level they could understand, and he took his time with them. What a remarkable example he was to me that day! May your family be blessed with peace and comfort.
