Douglas Jones Obituary

Douglas Clark Jones 1952 ~ 2006 PARK CITY - Douglas Clark Jones, 53, died Saturday, August 12, 2006 from injuries sustained in a car accident, prematurely leaving behind the world of good he created. He was born in Salt Lake City on September 30, 1952 to Stanley T. and Mary Jones and lived a life of perpetual motion. His favorite saying was "Life is good," his favorite advice to his family was "Have fun storming the castle" and he made friends and helped and inspired others wherever he went. His hobbies included anything and everything aerobic. He loved the mountains and was an avid skier, golfer, runner, triathlete and cyclist. His final bicycle ride was up Little Cottonwood Canyon three hours before his accident. Doug grew up in Wyoming and Colorado and graduated from Denver's Wheat Ridge High School before attending Brigham Young University, where he graduated in communications in 1978. He served a two-year LDS mission in southern California and throughout his life held numerous church callings. He began his professional career in public relations and marketing before moving into commercial real estate. He married Polly Molyneaux on August 16, 1974 and they have five children, Tara, Logan, Brennen, Whitney and Conner, all of whom survive their dad. Doug is also survived by his parents, Stanley and Mary; two sisters, Karen Chandler and LeeAnn Quinlan; his brother, Brett; and three grandchildren, Seth and twins Kate and Claire, who are the children of Tara and Jeff Plowgian. The twins were born last Thursday and put the big smile on Doug's face in the accompanying photograph. Also surviving are his in-laws, Blaine G. and Joyce Molyneaux of Kaysville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the Park City Trailside LDS Chapel located at 510 Silver Summit Parkway where friends and family may call one hour prior to services. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery. Funeral directors, Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. e-mail condolences to the family at [email protected]

Polly and family...
It's unfortunate that our lives become so separated and distant over the course of time.

I just found out today of your family's loss and Doug's passing.

I was doing a search on the Internet because Doug came to my mind and I just wanted to call and catch up.

I can't express the shock when I became aware of his passing.

Doug was such a good man and great friend. He had a tremendous sense of grace and gentleness.

When we lived in Houston, some of my fondest memories are of Doug and me playing racketball at Charlie's Health Club.

I hope you and your family have been able to find peace, Polly and I'm sorry for not being more diligent in keeping in touch.

Polly and Children,

I am so saddened by this tragic news and please know that my prayers are with you. I have not talked with you and your family in a couple of years but I have such fond memories of Doug and I cherish all the advice he gave me on being a good father when Audrey was born. I will never forget all the 5am runs around Bent Tree Golf Course and the time we shared eating sushi when he would come back to Dallas. He was a Great man and will be truly missed by all the lives he touched.

August 26, 2006

Oh, Polly. I am so sorry to hear this awful news. Doug was always so willing to listen and help anyone he could. I've missed both of you since you left Dallas and NDAC. I can't even to beginto express how sad this makes me.

Much Love,

Polly: This morning ( 8/26)I ran into The Rosner's. I was chatting with them about old friends from The NDAC. A few names came up and then I logically asked about you and Doug. A look came over him, and he said "didn't you hear...?". Polly, I have thought about you guys all day today and wish you nothing but the best. We were not close friends but we all had dozens of small conversations over many years. I am very sorry for your loss. God's speed.

Jones Family: I am deeply saddened to hear the news. I have spent many, many hours in heart-to-heart conversation with this special man and so knew him as well as anyone. What a great confidant and life coach! There is a huge hole in my heart today. There will never be another one like him. -- Don

Polly,

My husband, Govan, and I were with Rick Scarola and his wife, Lynn, last year and met you and Doug in Deer Valley for skiing, lunch and then again for dinner. We enjoyed our time so much with both of you. I remember thinking that I hoped Govan and I would be just like you two in another decade or so - happy, active, obviously very devoted to each other, the proud parents of great children. I am so very sorry for your tremendous loss, and I will not forget our brief but meaningful encounter with you and Doug. Though we barely know you, please know that Govan and I grieve with you and pray for you and your family.

Polly,

I only today learned of Doug's passing and want you to know my love and prayers go out to you and your family at this time. It has been 28 years since our Communication Internships in New York City. It was such fun sharing that summer together in that small apartment on West 96th Street after graduation from BYU. Doug was always so full of energy and life. I have thought of those days often over the years. May the Lord bless you during this very difficult time with his love and comfort. Until we all meet again...

Doug was a great teacher and influence in my life. I will never forget Doug and the great memories I experienced in Young Mens with him as one of my leaders. There are many others that would also say the same thing that were Youth in the Richardson 1st Ward when Doug was in Young Mens. His light has been shown in the reflection of such a great family he has. The Jones family is truly one of the greatest families I have known in my life. Doug and his family will always be remembered by me. May God bless the Jones family.

August 17, 2006

I am Doug's cousin, Mo Webb, and want to express my deepest sympathies to Doug's family. I remember him as a very active child and cringed whenever I was told I had to babysit him and his sister Karen. I am impressed that he turned his super high activity level into a super life. God bless you all.

Your family and especially your dad have brought me so much joy and understanding in life. Rarely do you meet in life a friend who is your eaual yet inspires you to greatness beyond what you think you may be able. Athletically, I have always chased him up mountains and across the flats and he has beaten me. We called him "mother". not because he was motherly in any sense of the word, but simply because he was a "MOTHER" to keep up with. He was the "engine" that kept us all going.

Spiritually he has been my mentor and my "coach".Even in this area, he has beaten me once again. I will always be chasing Doug to try and keep up . I look forward to the day when we will meet again- he is truly a man I can say that I love

The last time we saw Doug he was so happy and at peace. He talked glowingly of his wife and children, grandchild and soon-to-be-born grand twins. He taked of Tara and her husband and child and of her pregnancy with such detail and anticipation it made us smile. He talked with pride of Logan and his medical school and plans for his life. He talked with love of Brennen and his internship and where his life might be taking him, of Whitney and her start at BYU and the advice and discussions they had had about school, and of Polly's and his youngest, Conner.

He seemed so happy and content with life and full of love for his wife and family.

Only God understands the reason for what appears to all of us be a tragedy, but it seems to us that Doug went out at the top of his game. We are saddened by the loss of what could have been for Doug, and saddened by what his loss means to Polly and their children and grandchildren. We pray for all of them that God will support and sustain them during this period of mourning and for the rest of their lives.
