I have known Mario for about 10 years from Babe Ruth, I didn't always agree with him but always respected him and appreciated his commitment and love to the players and the game of baseball in youth sports. We had several great conversations on what will or does make baseball a great game for our youth. He will be missed greatly. I pray for comfort for his family and friends at this time.

Mario was certainly one of a kind and will be missed. I enjoyed many years of association with him through baseball. I have many fond memories of Mario and all the great talks that we had about unions, politics, and mostly baseball. He was there for my last game that I umpired last year and I appreciated his being there. He didn't know I was retiring until after the game and I appreciated his kind words to me.

My condolences to his family.

Mario, You were such an amazing man. Always joking and with a big grin on your face. I enjoyed our time together in Babe Ruth. I still remember when going to Elko Nevada to do my 1st Babe Ruth Regional. You and Keith Mackey drove up to watch me. I am glad I got to see you one last time in August to sit and talk about the good ole days. Many will miss you. I know I will. Love Ya Mario

It has been a great pleasure knowing Mario for many years through baseball. Mario was a very unselfish volunteer and did so much for the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth program. It was a great pleasure working side by side with Mario on the Utah state Babe Ruth board for the past few years. Mario has been a great example and was loved by so many. He always did and stood up for what he felt was right.
I will miss Mario, he was a great friend and felt like a member of the family.
Mario we will miss you but know you are smiling down on us.

With love from Chris Cavanee and family
