T. Leonard Rowley peacefully passed from this mortal life on August 2, 2015 surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; his son, Wayne (Linda); his parents and his brothers and a sister. He is survived by his sister, Shirley (Lyle) Evans; children, Greg (Ruth), Janet (Randy), Gerald (Valorie) and Lynn Kyle (Brian); 20 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
Leonard was born on Feb. 22, 1924, in Parowan Utah, to George S. and Cora M. Rowley. He graduated from Parowan High School; served three years in the U.S. Army Air Corps and two years in the Western States LDS Mission. He married Wanda Whitmore on Sept. 9, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from Brigham Young University and received a doctorate degree from the University of Minnesota.
A longtime resident of North Ogden, he taught at Weber High School for five years and was on the faculty of Weber State College for 33 years. For 17 years he was chairman of Theater Arts. He began teaching when Weber was a junior college and saw it become a university a year after he retired. Leonard loved teaching and the theater, but more than that he loved his students and remained friends with many of them for life.
Leonard and Wanda loved to travel and visited much of the world. He also loved projects and could always be found making, fixing or improving something. Even in his later years he could be found up on a ladder hanging pictures or making something on the computer.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many responsible positions, including bishop of the North Ogden LDS 3rd Ward, the North Ogden LDS 6th Ward and as a member of several Stake high Councils. He was passionate about missionary work and shared the gospel with many throughout his life, including a full time mission with his eternal companion to Roanoke, Virginia from 1989-1990. He also loved the Temple and the promise of eternal families made possible through Christ and His restored gospel.
Most of all Leonard loved his family and his Lord. Grandpa loved attending his grandchildren's events, hosting camp with gramps, and simply spending time with all his family. His birthday cards, letters, and words of encouragement will be missed. In his own words, "Wife and family are the most important people in my life."
A special thanks to all Dad's caregivers; especially Jeanine, Carolyn and the wonderful staff at Legacy House in Bountiful.
