Barbara Petri "Babs" Beatty

Barbara Beatty Obituary

Barbara "Babs" Petri Beatty 1947 ~ 2009 Babs was born July 21, 1947 in San Francisco, California to Hal and Carole Petri. She moved to Salt Lake City in 1958. She graduated from Olympus High School in 1965 and attended the University of Utah. She married Steve Beatty in 1969. In their forty years together, they raised three daughters, Kim, Stephanie, and Megan. In more recent years, she was thrilled to welcome four angels into the family - three grand-daughters and one grand-son. She cherished every minute she was able to spend with them. During Babs' incredible 61 years she accomplished many wonderful things. She worked for several years at Mtn. Bell/AT&T before becoming self-employed as an artist. Originally diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer in 1996, she used this experience as the inspiration for countless drawings and paintings, including a book dedicated to women battling cancer. Through these works she became well known in the Utah art community and had her work displayed in many galleries. Babs is survived by: Sister, Gayle Valentine (Keith Kiler); Husband, Steve Beatty; Daughters, Kim Cogsdil (Brent), Stephanie Efnor (Chad) and Megan Beatty; Grandchildren Ali, Bella and Sam (Efnor) and Ava (Beatty) and countless dear friends. A memorial celebration will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 8 at Red Butte Garden. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Community Nursing Services Hospice program (thank you Sharon Strong, Barbara Werner and Dana Travis for your love, support and respect). Live, Love, Laugh!

Knowing Babs has always been a delight. When things were going well she was wonderful, when things were bad she was incredible. One cannot help but love, respect, and admire Babs. She will certainly be sadly missed, but, for me, the memory of Babs will always be joyful.

I can not believe that I'm am writing about Babs' death. There's a huge hole in my being that I cannot describe. I missed the service yesterday as Ed's Father passed away a couple of days after Babs and I went to Spokane to be with them. I'm holding you all near to my heart and will continue to think of you all daily for a long time to come. Hugs to each and every one until I see you,

Many years ago, I met Babs, Steve and their family, when I was selling their home.
When I first met Babs, I liked her Instantly...but that’s how it was with anyone who was fortunate enough to be in her world. There wasn’t a person who could come into contact with her and not feel her Beautiful spirit.

I remember Long Humors conversations with Babs.
I always admired her Intelligence, Humor, Beauty, Her most amazing supportive talent as a proud “Mom-Grandma” and her Creativity in her Gorgeous “Art”.
She Created Beauty in Anything & Everywhere!
A Beautiful Classy lady with a sharp Intelligent Mind.
I appreciated her Sensitive and Loving soul.

Steve, you are amazing and have been the most Supportive, Caring, Loving Good Husband, Care Giver, Father, and Grand-Dad especially during challenging times.

My most sincere & deepest Sympathy to Steve, the Children and Family.

May you feel comforted in the many Beautiful Memories of Babs.

I was a terrified mother of 4 young sons when I was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. I was scheduled to have a stem-cell transplant and my wonderful sister found Babs, who called, visited, and mentored me through the whole process. She gave me hope and inspiration and I celebrated my 11th "Birthday" since my stem cells were returned to me in May. Without Babs, I don't know if I would have had the confidence to follow through with this difficult treatment. She is truly an angel and I will treasure the many angels and cards she gave to me. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. This kind, talented woman will be missed dearly.

Steve, Kim, Brent, Stephanie, Chad, Megan, and Babs' little angels,
There are no words for the sorrows of the heart. I am blessed to have been "Babz" kissin' cuz and to have shared our Ruthie. I will never forget her radiant smile and beautiful dimples or the trouble we created when we were little girls.
She will live in my heart forever as will you...Always, All Ways,
Auntie Janni

Bab's sister Gayle and I are friends from high school and I remember Babs as the perky little sister. I always knew she would become a talented, gentle and loved friend, mother and sister. I will go to the beach near my home today and think of the beauty Babs gave to our world.

Nearly 26 years ago all the Valentines gathered in Lake Tahoe -- at that time we laughed and saw all that joined us together as Valentine. I am deeply saddened to learn of Bab's death and her journey to fight her disease. I know she is now at peace with God! May God comfort each of you in your loss and may your memories and love of Bab's quiet your souls.

Babs and I met after our transplants and always considered ourselves the luckiest people in the world. We were two of the miracles that came out of the UofU Transplant Center. I am thankful she had these extra years after her diagnosis. What a wonderful contribution she has made to so many. I will miss Babs and her wonderful artwork.
