Ruth Jepson Obituary

Ruth Ida Boede Jepson 1925 ~ 2010 Ruth Ida Boede Jepson passed away peacefully on January 30, 2010. She was born to Fritz and Helene Teschner Boede on December 26, 1925, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from South High School and pursued lifelong education through reading and study. She married Wayne Hamilton Jepson on September 17, 1948, in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Berkeley, CA; Santa Clara, CA; Normal, IL and Salt Lake City, UT. Mom was a full-time homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. Her three children and five grandchildren were her pride and joy. She solidly supported Dad in his pursuit of education and throughout his busy career and numerous Church and Temple callings. She was an excellent seamstress and wonderful cook. She made our home the heart and soul of the family. She also cherished her extended family and many fun visits shared with her brother and sister and their companions, her nieces and nephews and their families, cousins and special family friends. She was an avid computer user and not afraid to learn new technology in her advancing years. She loved taking photographs and writing letters to stay in touch and preserve our family history. She was an accomplished violinist, pianist and vocalist. She enjoyed music of all kinds from the hymns to the classics to Lawrence Welk to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to develop their talents and happily applauded their performances. Mom was a faithful, lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in numerous leadership and teaching positions in the Relief Society, Primary, Young Women and Sunday School. She fulfilled a successful stake mission. She earned her Golden Gleaner award. She was an outstanding Seminary teacher in three states. Her former students still remember her fervent testimony and how she made the Scriptures come to life. She was a devoted visiting teacher for over 50 years. She served in the Primary for over 30 years, where interacting with children was her special love. Her gift as a storyteller was unique and compelling. Mom's love for and commitment to her Savior Jesus Christ were exemplified in her countless quiet acts of service, her selfless sacrifices, her willingness to share her testimony often, her fervent prayers for loved ones, neighbors and friends, and her positive outlook on life and finding goodness in everyone she met. She always had a kind word, a disposition of optimism, gratitude and hope, and trust in her Heavenl Father. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wayne; daughter, Karen; daughter, Barbara; son, Douglas (Jessica); her grandchildren: Joseph, Jared, Nathan, Natalie, and Andrea; her brother, Fred (Pam) Boede; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Helen Boede and Irene (Joseph) Scally. Her eternal family is everything to her as she is to them. We were lucky to have the best mother in the world, and her children and grandchildren will cherish her memory and forever rise up and call her blessed. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Holladay 28th Ward Chapel, 2625 E. Milo Way (4910 S.) There will be a viewing at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2010; and at the chapel on Monday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. The family would like to thank the excellent staff at St. Mark's Hospital, Heritage Home Health, and CareSource Hospice for their respectful and kind care of Ruth.

Dear Jepson family,
My first memory of Ruth was at a ward activity held in the cultural hall of the old Cleaves building in San Jose in 1956. She was in a skit with Vivian Webb and Charlotte Ryan that also included "Chicky, Barbie and Tootie". I don't remember what it was about but it must have been really funny because I do remember how everyone laughed and was having a great time. Karen and I were about 7 years old then. How has time fled so quickly?

The many times I've stayed at your home, your mother was always welcoming, nurturing and encouraging, no matter how outrageous and far flung our adventures might have seemed to her. Her kindness extended to my family as well.

Our mothers and most of their gang are gone now but what fun and joy they must all be having together again. Your family has always been a part of my life and you are all in my thoughts and prayers at this time.

With love,
Annette

Wayne and Family: Wow! We thought Ruth would live forever. Her energy and vitality bleessed us for over 35 years. We have not lived in your ward for over 30 years, but Ruth's annual Christmas letter kept us informed. Diane and I have thought and talked of you, Ruth, and your family often over the last 30 years. You have been and continue to be a positive influence in our lives! May you receive "the peace that passeth all understanding". Your friends, Art and Diane Ford

We are saddened with Ruth's passing, but know that she lived a full life of service to others, especially children whom she had a great influence for good. We remember many fond years coming to your home and keeping in touch over the years as we moved to Texas and back to Utah. We pray for a comforting by the spirit to you your family and know that you have an eternal family. We will miss Ruth, but her memories live on and will be cherished by our family whom she had a great influence on. May the Lord bless your wonderful family during this time in our eternal progression.
