Ray Dudley Obituary

1925 ~ 2011
Ray A. Dudley was born on April 8, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri. He passed away of natural causes on November 10, 2011 at St. Mark's Hospital. He is preceded in death by his wife Reba Dudley. He is survived by two sisters, Lucille Lamoreaux and Helen Olsen.
Ray and his wife moved to Salt Lake City in the late 50's and he continued to pursue his artistic abilities. He has sold many paintings. He has won many blue ribbons and "Best of the Show" at the Utah State Fair.
Even when Ray was in the nursing home (St. Joseph's Villa), he continued his painting skills and did several lovely watercolor paintings. He will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank St. Joseph's Villa and all his caregivers for the excellent care given to Ray while he was there.

Of all of the artists that have painted western desert scenes, Ray Dudley is one of the very best. Ray was also very good in painting portraits. He won many ribbons for his paintings, and won first place for a painting submitted to the Utah State Fair. In addition to his painting talents, Ray had many other great talents and attributes. He was a very kind and considerate person. In the many years that I new Ray, he always seemed to be happy and upbeat. Ray, your talent and life will always be missed. Thanks so much for all that you have done! Your friend and admirer, Brent H. Gubler

Ray became one of my friends while I served in the St. Joseph's Branch of the LDS church. Ray was a remarkable man who would make me laugh, think and he asked great questions. Ray talked a lot about his family and his friends in St. Louis. Today while I was at St. Joseph's several residents and staff members commented to me about how much Ray will be missed. Thanks for your friendship Ray.

RAY DUDLEY WAS AN AMAZING ARTIST, BUT I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF KNOWING HIM AS A KIND, GENEROUS, COMPASSIONATE PERSON. I MET HIM IN MY YOUTH THROUGH HIS SISTER, HELEN, MY DEAREST FRIEND. IN OUR SCHOOL YEARS, HE WAS SO CARING AND FRIENDLY, ALWAYS WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR. MY ADULT YEARS WITH HIM WERE FEW, BUT IT WAS ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO BE AROUND HIM. I ENJOYED HIS WIT AND CHARMING, OUTGOING PERSONALITY. HOWEVER, SUFFERING WITH PAINS OF AGING, WAS HARD FOR RAY, AND I AM THANKFUL HE WAS TAKEN HOME QUICKLY WHERE HE WILL BE AT PEACE WITH THOSE LOVED ONES GONE BEFORE. HE WAS GIVEN A GIFT FROM GOD TO PAINT, AND HE WILL MAKE THE HEAVENS MORE BEAUTIFUL.
