Anna Kieschnick Obituary

March 23, 1923 - December 8, 2016
Obituary for Anna Charaldine (Longhofer) Kieschnick
It has pleased Almighty God to call His servant, Anna C. Kieschnick, to her eternal home on December 8, 2016, at the age of 94. Anna's health concerns the last years of her life influenced her decision to live at Oak Manor Nursing Center in Flatonia, Texas. Anna was always grateful that Pastor Elder McCants, of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas ministered to her and prayed for her as did Pastor Al Gallmeier of Zion Lutheran Church in Schulenburg, Texas while she was a resident of Oak Manor.

Anna was born on March 23, 1923 in Shattuck, Oklahoma. She was the first of 14 children born to her parents, Benjamin and Magdalena Longhofer. Anna, beloved Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and Friend was baptized as an infant in Shattuck, Oklahoma and was confirmed as a teenager in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Faith in the German Lutheran Church in Shattuck, Oklahoma. Anna remained faithful to her Lord and Savior all of her life. She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, was President of the Ladies Aid, served on the Altar Guild, Dorcas Club, was the Church Treasurer, a church greeter, an active member of the Couples Club, Walther League, Lutheran Youth Group, Lutheran Women's Missionary League as well as being responsible for organizing and planning meals and decorating for different occasions at the church.

Anna married the "love of her life", Samuel E. Kieschnick, Jr., on September 24, 1944 at Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas. Pastor M. L. Kochneke performed the service. After their marriage, Sam served his country overseas during the war and Anna returned to the Lower Rio Grand Valley to await Sam's return in September 1945. Anna and Sam were married for 56 years before the Lord called Sam to his heavenly home in 2000. This union was blessed with three children: Samuel Ernest, III, Ruth Anne and Deborah Sue.

Anna was preceded in death by her loving husband in February 2000, her daughter, Deborah, in June 1996, daughter-in-law, Mary Louise, in May 1993, son-in-law, John Kuca in July 2014, parents: Benjamin and Magdalena Longhofer, brothers: Edward, John, Henry, Benjamin and Melvin, and sisters, Wilba Ruth Longhofer Koch, Juliana Longhofer Stokes and Bonnie Longhofer Thomas and several nieces.

Anna is survived by her son, Samuel Ernest, III, of Lago Vista and daughter, Ruth Anne Kuca of Houston. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Andrew Kieschnick, Jill and husband, Thomas Fang, Jeffrey Kieschnick, Jennifer and Lauren Kuca and John J. Ringer III and wife, Kathy. Also surviving Anna is her devoted sister, Kathy, and husband, Bob Derryberry, and brothers: Harold and wife, Carolyn, Jesse and wife, Kathleen, Vernon and Floyd, sister-in-law; Elaine Maxson, aunts: Alma Schwab of Canadian, Texas and close friends: Pastor Elder McCants, Katie Klann, Eleanor Karstadt, Mary Lou Hagen, Barbara Behrendt, Ruthie Zamora, Ginny Schoenborn and Dean, Mary Lee, Melody and Ernie Ramos, all of San Antonio Texas, and Carroll Dorsett of Austin Texas.

Anna was an accomplished seamstress and a great cook and baker. She was known for the wonderful meals she prepared, especially during the holidays for family and friends and for church gatherings. Anna worked many years as a telephone operator and as a hostess at Luby's Cafeteria. She took great pride in being a housewife and "stay at home Mother" while her children were in their formative years.

Anna would like to be remembered as a Faithful Christian and as an unselfish person who always cared for her younger brothers and sisters and later, her own children. She stressed humility and simplicity when planning her funeral service which will be officiated by Anna's minister, Pastor Elder McCants.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a. m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3118 South New Braunfels Avenue, San Antonio, Texas, prior to the funeral service. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation at 11:00 a. m. with interment to follow in Mission Burial Park South, 1700 S. E. Military Drive, San Antonio, Texas. (210-924-4242). Reception to follow interment at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Anna's Pallbearers are: Grandsons; Andrew and Jeffrey Kieschnick, John Ringer, and Godchildren and nephews; Harold Koch, Jr., Edward Longhofer, Jr. and great nephew, Samuel Sink.

Honorary Pallbearers are nephews: John, Kyle, Kevin, Matt, David and Don Longhofer; John and Charlie Stokes, Neal Thomas and Daryl Derryberry.

We will miss Sister Anna tremendously.
She has been a close family member of the
Bob Derryberry household for almost 4 years.
Together we had many hours of laughter and
fun. She loved serving her Lord and Savior.
Godmother Anna you were "one in a million"
and I thank God for your influence in our lives.
Love in Christ from Your loving little sister and Godchild.
