1933
2021
Robert Lee Elley, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday, May 3, 2021. He was a devoted Christian, husband, father, and grandfather.
Robert was born February 28, 1933 in Seguin, Texas. In 1953, he joined the army and proudly served his country while stationed in Germany. In 1955, he married his wife of 65 years, Helen Miller, of Gonzales, Texas. Robert and Helen raised their family in San Antonio, where he worked at Richter's Butter Krust Bakery for 37 years—his work-ethic was unmatched, only missing a few days ever for medical reasons.
Faith and family meant the most to Robert; he was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren, and cherished time spent with all. He especially loved their family lunches shared around their table after church on Sundays. Robert's third love was sports, and almost certainly his conversations would always turn into a discussion about the latest game, or his favorite teams within minutes— he specifically loved anything Longhorn, his Dallas Cowboys (past more than present) and the Texas Rangers. His true joy was watching his grandchildren at their respective ball-games. You could usually find him off to the side of the field or court by himself, as he was known to get a bit overzealous around other parents and fans.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hermina; brother, Joe Jr.; grandchildren, Sandra and Cassandra Montgomery, and Robert Lee Elley, III. He is survived by his wife, Helen Elley; sister, Emma Jean Moritz; daughter, Donna Montgomery and family, husband James and children Christopher and Vanessa; and son, Robert (Bubba) Elley, Jr. and family, wife Cynthia and daughter Tyler.
2 Corinthians 5:8 "Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord."
