Dear Ann and Family,
In 1968, I started as a management trainee at the Gary Village Store and Walt was the Sales and Merchandise Manager. He taught me how to be a merchant. Several years later I was assigned as a department manager at the new Waukegan store and things were not going well. Walt came to the store for district check and I shared my frustration with him. He told me to hang on and he would find something for me. Several weeks later I was promoted to the warehouse merchandiser at the Elk Grove Village warehouse. This position got me involved in furniture which became my career until I retired eight years. Nobody had more impact on my life than Walt. I will never be able to thank him enough!
Eternal rest grant unto Walt, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Very Sincerely, Bob Eilenfeldt - Euless, Texas

Dear Ann and Family,
Irene and I were saddened to hear of the passing of Walt. You have our deepest sympathy.
Walt was a very good friend of myself. We go back many years starting in Hammond Indiana and many places after that. We spent great times together on a several fishing trips and many other social occasions. I believe the last time that we saw the two of you was several years ago at the Wisconsin Dells.
Rest in peace Walt. Our prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Ann and Families,
I knew Walt on and off for many Years. Never worked directly with Walt, however, we crossed path's in IL, NE, NYO and TX. When I became a District Manager in Iowa about 1/3 of my stores were in Walt's District when he was in Nebraska as DM and everyone in those stores respected and talked of Walt. He was loved!!
For such a BOLD man he was also a peoples person for those that he worked with. This trait served him well in his 50 Years of serving our company.
Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Ann, I just saw the HCSC notice this morning. I am so sorry for your loss. As you know, Walt was one of my favorite people in the Penney company. We had some great times together. He was the best DM that I ever worked with and taught me a lot about how to treat our people. Just sorry we didn't see more of each other during all these year since we worked together. Ann enjoy the memories! Mac Whitson
Mark, I didn't know you, but just want to tell you how sorry I am for your tremendous loss. Had some great time with your Father. Some I can't tell you about, You'll have to ask Barry and Les!
A Good Man, very intelligent, great teacher, and took care of the people in his charge. And my friend. Mac Whitson
