Edward Gonzales Obituary

Cpl. Edward V. Gonzales, age 76, passed away with his family by his side Monday, August 11, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. He fought a fearless battle of cancer just as he fought through life, with un-daunting courage. He was born on August 13, 1931 in San Antonio, Texas to Evaristo J. and Maria D. Gonzalez. He was a graduate of Sydney Lanier H.S., the May class of 1950. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the famous Fox 2 Company 2nd BN, First Marine Division. He was a proud member of the Chosen Few Reservoir where he received a Purple Heart medal. After recuperating from his injuries, he returned to San Antonio to wed the love of his life, Margaret Trinidad. They were blessed with 57 blissful years and four beautiful children. He worked 37 years for Kelly AFB 1827th GIA Squadron where he installed ground to earth communications. He traveled all over the world to support our Nations communications system. He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs and was an avid fan of Sonny Corinthos of General Hospital. You could always find his screw driver and pliers in his back pocket ready to fix whatever needed to be done. Most importantly he was a mentor to everyone he encountered. This past year he was proudly elected president of the Fox 2 Seven Association Reunion. His last words were I know I'm going to Heaven because I have already been through Hell. Semper Fi. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, his brothers Raymond V. Gonzalez and wife Helen and Joe V. Gonzalez, sister Olga Valdez. He is survived by his wife Margaret; daughters: Alma and husband Dr. William C. Berlocher of C.C., TX, and Kathy Gonzales of C.C. TX; sons: Edward E. Gonzales and fiancé Diana of SA, TX, and Maj. R. Eric Gonzales and wife Dr. Patricia Lane of C.C. TX; grandchildren: Desiree Bertram and husband Bob; Mark Bueno; Edward E. Gonzales Jr.; Andrea Berlocher; Derek Gonzales and wife Brandy; Elaine Berlocher; Tessa Gonzales; Gigi Gonzales, Robert Gonzales; and 7 1/2 great grandchildren. Sisters: Eva Ibarra; Oralia Dominguez and husband Raymond; Victoria Salazar; and brother Johnny V. Gonzalez and wife Minnie; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The Family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Dice and the nursing staff from the Cancer Centers of South Texas for their kindness and care. Viewing will begin at 4 pm at the Mission Park Funeral Chapels North on Thursday, August 14, 2008 with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 15, 2008 at 11:30 am at St. Dominics Catholic Church, 5919 Ingram Rd. Cpl. Edward V. Gonzales will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:00 pm amongst his fellow Marine Warriors with Military Honors. Uncle Eddie, I already miss you so much! I don't think that I expressed how much you and Aunt Margaret truly mean to me. The talks that we would have when I would come and visit when I was a little girl that started " Well Mija" were instilled in my heart and soul. I have nothing but the upmost respect and gratitude for the wisdom shared by such a wise man. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I will miss you so much more than you will ever know. It's time for you to share your wisdom with the Angel's. I Love You!!

Well Pop it has been 10 days since you have started your new journey. Every morning on my way to work I see the sunrising over the bay, and I know you are watching over me. I miss you so much and I want to thank you for teaching me the true values of Love, Hope, and Faith. You have been my rock and I will cherish every moment that we shared in life. I love you Pop and will continue your legacy. Holly sends puppy kisses and hugs.

My prayers and thoughts are with the wonderful Gonzales Family. As a small child as well as through the years I remember Mr. Gonzales as a coach for my brothers little league teams at Loma Park. Through our school years Mr. and Mrs. Gonzales could always be found along side their kids at most school functions. Such a dedicated and loving dad to his family. These are the memories I have of Mr. Gonzales.

Blessings and prayers to the entire Gonzales family. Margo Uriegas

Eddie and Margaret have been my dear friends since I arrived at the 1827th EIS in June 1976. They have a wonderful family and Eddie was such a proud and loving father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather. We will all miss him, but we must remember that he accomplished his first mission, with honor, here on earth. His next mission is with God, and I'm sure that he'll get some good use out of his toolbox, just as he did in the 1827th. Goodbye my friend, and God Bless your family.
