Nanette Reed Sargent, of San Antonio, Texas passed away peacefully on May 19, 2017, while holding the hands of her beloved husband and son.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held in the sanctuary of University United Methodist Church, 5084 De Zavala, San Antonio, Texas, at 10 am, May 30, 2017, followed by a reception at the church.
Nanette was born on March 31, 1927, in West Lafayette, Indiana, to Lonnie and Maude Reed. She attended high school in Mission, Texas, graduating as Valedictorian with a state-wide scholarship at the age of 16. Her undergraduate years were spent at Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas, where she obtained a B.S. in Library Science. Her first job, post-college, was at Michigan State University where she met Charles. They married in Monon, Indiana, on November 4, 1950. During the over 66 years of marriage that followed, they happily shared their enjoyment of travel, reading, church, book clubs and libraries. She received a Master of Science degree in Library Studies at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and worked in a variety of library settings. She particularly loved working with children's literature and poetry. The affection she had for her son, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was whole hearted. She never met a dog, cat, or turtle that she didn't like and she was deeply connected to her many friends and to her faith.
Nanette is preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Maude Reed. She is survived by her husband, Charles, and her son, Edward (Julia); grandsons Thomas (Theresa), James (Christeen) and Jonathan (Krysta); great grandchildren Skylar and Janessa; her niece and nephew by marriage La Donna and Dale Clary, to whom she was especially close.
