Robert Ponce Obituary
Robert Dennis Ponce, guitarist and guitar instructor, born October 9, 1958 entered into rest on November 16, 2008 at the age of 50. Mr. Ponce is survived by his father Felix Ponce, brother, Hector David Ponce, sister, Linda Olivarez and husband Richard, nieces, Melissa Olivarez, Melanie Olivarez, companion Maura, her daughter Georgia. Visitation begins Friday, November 21, 2008 from 12:00pm to 8:00pm. A Chapel Service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 1:00pm at Trevino Funeral Home with interment to follow at the San Fernando Cemetery #3.

Another year gone by without Bobbie. I am still into trains still and do train hobby activities like we use to. Always fond memories of his fiber optics train set comes to mind. Thanksgiving is not the same without you. Angel hugs!

Robert and I flew model air planes and were train hobbiest. We use to paint miniature trees and people for his train display and at one time he had a train circling the walls to his room with fiber optics to light the track. He was the most interesting person I have ever met and I knew famous people. He was a dreamer and completed an album or two, which he never published. "Signs" and "Two Hearts" were my favorites. I am sure music lovers would have enjoyed them.. I play guitar and drums and we use to enjoy harmonizing whenever we felt like singing. OnE amazing thing was that Robert, his dad, and mom were whistlers and would whistle complete songs and communicate in the house very often. It was a beautiful family talent. I could listen to Robert theorize for hours about life, inventions, new riffs for songs etc. Miss him so even now 13 years later.

I met Robert quite by accident at a show he and I perfeormed in with our then, respective bands. Not too long after, we exchanced contact information and not long after, we formed which would be to this day, the best collection of musicians I would ever play with. What remained after the group's demise, was a friendship with Mr Ponce that lasted until his final day. I will ALWAYS respect him, his knowledge of music, it's industry and most if all, his friendship. Goodbye for now my friend.

I went to school with Bobby and met him through his cousin, my best friend, Jesse Ponce. I always admired Bobby's person as much as his talents. God bless his family.

I had the pleasure of knowing Robbie back in the late 80's and early 90's when live music in San Antonio was the norm, not the exception. He was a talented muscian and wonderful friend. I have nothing but great memories of the times we spent talking.

To the Ponce Family,
I was notified by Robert Martinez of Robbie's passing and my heart is deeply saddened for this great loss. Robbie and I were friends back in the early eighties and i have nothing but the warmest, fondest memories of him. All those times I rode in his van and the many sessions I sat through when he was teaching guitar to his students. I admired him and my memories of him will always make me smile. My love to him and my prayers to his family for this very difficult time.

I was deeply saddened by Roberts passing. I met Robert in high school and we became friends since we both were guitar players. Robert was a kind, gentle, funny person. He was an extremely talented musician. Through Robert I met Oscar and Mike and other musicians. I learned much about music and life growing up with Robert and friends. For those life lessons I am eternally grateful.

My name is Leonard Morales. I met Robert thru Carlos Garcia. I had the opportunity to purchase Marshall half stack he used when was with Wicked Step. He also visited me just about every other weekend to help the band I was in. I considered him a great friend.

My wife and I are in deep sarrow to hear of Roberts passing. I was the drummer in the band called Staggerwing back in the mid to late 70's and Robert played the base guitar, Brien Carr was on the lead guitar, and Mike Rivera was on the vocals. I remember getting together with Robert and the band and we would practice in his garage almost every other weekend. Man those days were " FAROUT". I was notified by Bill Collins on Roberts passing, I can not believe that he is gone, I just spoke to him about a month ago and we even had lunch together this summer. We went to school together and went to many rock concerts. We were in cub scouts and grew up together. You were really a great friend and you will be missed. My condolences to Mr. Felix Ponce, brother David and the rest of the family.
