Thomas Peyton Nowlin III

Dr. Thomas Peyton Nowlin, III Born November 28, 1944 to Thomas and Roberta Howard Nowlin in San Antonio, Texas. Moved to Devine at 2 years of age. Graduated from San Marcos Baptist Academy. Received his B.S. degree from Sam Houston State, M.A. from U.T.S.A. and his D.D.S. from the U.T. Dental Branch. Served as an U.S. Army dental officer in Europe and the U.S. and rose to the rank of Major. Practiced dentistry in San Antonio before joining the faculty of the U.T. Dental School at San Antonio where he became Professor and the Chief of the division of occlusion before retiring after 28 years to become the Chairman of Clinical Sciences of the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. He was the author of many publications and the recipient of multiple awards for teaching and research. He was past vice president of the American Dental Education Association and passed away unexpectedly at their convention in Baltimore, MD on March 5, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Christi McMillan Nowlin (whom he married in 1966) of San Antonio; children: Rebecca and Jennifer Nowlin, both of San Antonio, Amanda Nowlin of Helotes and son, Dr. Thomas P. Nowlin, IV and his wife Michelle, of Honolulu, HI. He is also survived by his mother, Roberta Howard Nowlin of Devine; sister, Judy Whitt and her husband, Rev. Jim Whitt of Bigfoot; brothers: Robert Michael Nowlin and his wife, Dorothy of McKinney, John Howard Nowlin and his wife, Lynn of Austin, James Leslie Nowlin and his wife, Sue of San Antonio; four grandchildren: Rachel, Wyatt, Waylen and Thomas P. Nowlin, V. His father, Thomas P. Nowlin of Devine, preceded him in death. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM at the First Baptist Church, Devine. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church of Devine. Interment will follow at Longview Cemetery.
