Tomas Rivera Obituary
Señor Tómas Rivera was born on March 7, 1929 as the first-born son to Anselmo Rivera and Juanita Venegas, raised in the small town of Anahuac, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. As the first to carry the families name Tómas and his loving wife Francés created a home that would foster acceptance, understanding, and love. He represented the passion and strong work ethic of a devoted steelworker who supported his family in both the good and hard times. Through his children and down to his great grandchildren he exemplified the meaning of dedication and honor. His presence will never cease to exist as it can be seen in all 53 of his descendants. It is because of him we all know where we come from and where we are going. Tómas, we thank you for teaching us how to lead and love a family. Tómas was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Frances Rivera. He is survived by his children, Maria Esther Garcia (Jesus), Sandra Rivera (Karen), Jose Rivera ( Filomena), Rosa Rivera ( Lety), Anselmo Rivera, Juan De Dios Rivera (Beverley), Albert Rivera, Juanita Rodriguez (Roger), Olga Jackson (Scottie), Thomas Rivera Jr. (Yvonne), 25 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services
A visitation will begin from 5:00p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. The funeral service will be processing from Mission Park Funeral Chapels North at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 to the Fred J. Tips Mausoleum Chapel in Mission Burial Park North for an 11:00 a.m. chapel service. Interment to follow.

El poco tiempo que lo conoci, quiero dar las gracias por sus lindas memorias que me dio de mi mama. Muchas gracias por el carino y las atenciones que me brindo. Yo se que vinieron de su corazon. Siempre tendre presente en mi corazon la bonita sorpresa que me dio alvenir a vistarme a mi trabajo (East Chicago Police Department) y me trajo tortillas desede S.A.
Su devocion a su familia fue un regalo especial que Dios le dio y que usted se lo paso a su familia. Su amabilidad, carino y espiritu lleno cada espacio donde usted se encontraba. Ojala que sus hijos mantengan ese espiritu en su familia.

Lamento mucho no haber podido estar con ustedes para decirle un ' hasta luego" a mi Tio, pero en mi pensamiento los acompane. nunca permitan que nada los llene tanto de dolor como para olvidar todos los momentos felices, y las alegrias compartidas con mi Tio, el ya descansa en paz y estoy segura que el camino que el recorrio para encontrarse con sus seres queridos, fue un camino lleno de Luz que lo llevo ante la presencia de nuestro Padre Celestial.

Tio, i remember when you use to live next door, i remember all the days that you let us play steal the bacon late at night, all the days we had birds pizza while you and the grown ups played poker,and while my tia grabbed a barrita to hit frog and olga cause they didnt want to come in, but the most that i remember is the god man you were, a great role model for your kids and the best dad they could have ever had..........so i just wanted to say that you were a great man and a grat tio ........ ilove yo tio tomas..... love carolina rivera..

Primos y primas, what you wrote about your father was very well said. Your father was a good son, brother, husband, father, friend, tio. My mother told me some beautiful stories about them growing up in "el rancho" and how Tomas their older brother would go with them to protect them. One time he had a party a "baile" he liked to have fun. I remember his favorite group "Los Alegres de Teran" and all "norteña music, puro corazon" He was a gentleman, a very fine man.
May God be with all of you at this difficult time as you give him your last respects, you will see him again.

I had a dream last night that I saw moms face when you walked through the gates and she was so happy, you both held hands and walked away together and you both shinned.
