Ann Pressly Obituary

September 23, 1957 - December 23, 2015
Ann Pressly was born September 23, 1957 to Evalee and Chat (Henry) Pressly jr. in San Antonio, and died on December 23, 2015 following a two and a half year sojourn with cancer.

A life-long member of First Presbyterian Church, Ann led a rich spiritual life, sharing her talents with others.

In 1982 Ann earned a BFA in illustration from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, interning with Kermit Love, honing her puppeteering and design skills. Her distinctive career included jobs in Rye, New York, at San Antonio College, the University Health Science Center, and as a local small business owner.

Ann did everything right, according to today's social norms -- she worked hard, she paid her taxes, she bought a house, she volunteered with Sus Hijas, teaching women skills to become economically self-sufficient, went to church every week, believed in God and Jesus, loved her family and friends.

Ann was an exuberant, multi-talented artist, singer, illustrator, story teller, and jewelry designer whose humor, creativity, and sense of fun infiltrated everything she did. Sometimes known to tell a ribald joke or five, always brilliant, Ann was kind, powerful, stubborn, proud, loved many, confided in few, and had but one message for us all: Love each other and have fun.

Those of us fortunate to know Ann, to work with her, to joke with her, to sing with her, to grow with her, to love her, are truly blessed indeed.

Ann is survived by her mother Evalee Miles Pressly, Aunt Jamye Pressly, Uncle Clyde Day, numerous cousins, her countless beloved friends, and her very shy cat George.

A memorial service will be held at 11am Tuesday, January 5, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, 404 N Alamo St, San Antonio, TX 78205, with a reception to follow. Please consider wearing Ann's favorite color - pink. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sus Hijas, 145 Thelma, San Antonio, TX 78212, or to the charity of your choice.

I had the pleasure of singing with Ann in the Mastersingers for several years. Her smile and infectious laughter always brightened our rehearsals. The Mastersingers were very fortunate to have such a talented singer and artist among the ranks. Thank you for letting us be part of your life.

I also worked with Ann at the UTHSC Graphic Services Unit, and was saddened to learn of her death. She was truly, unforgettably, one of a kind. She taught me to say "Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit" on the first of every month, and doing that has brought me continued good luck to this day. RIP Ann Pressly.

I worked with Ann at the Health Science Center. She was always laughing, vibrant, and one of the first to embrace the shift from pen and paper to the computer in the art field. Always a positive force. Rest in peace sweet Ann.

My deepest condolences to all of Ann's family and friends. I first met Ann during our high school years and reunited again during our training for medical missions to Latin America. She was always a joy to be around and very sad to know her laughter will no longer fill a room on this plane. It was a great honor to call her mi amiga de junventud. May you all be surrounded by peace and love at this most difficult time.
