Donald Myles Obituary

1938 - 2017
On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, Don, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend was called Home. On August 1, 1964, Don married his loving wife Mary Jo. This August marks the celebration of 53 wonderful years of marriage. After receiving his Doctorate in Social Work, he achieved the rank of Colonel, serving 28 years in the Army. Upon retirement from the military, Don faithfully served his family, church, and community. He is survived by his devoted wife Mary Jo and his four children Scott, Michelle, Christopher, and Kelly. Don was a proud grandfather to his six grandchildren Cameron, Megan, Emma, Kate, Josephine, and Aidan. As a parishioner at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Don was a member on the Knights of Columbus, involved in ACTS ministry, a lector, and attended weekly Adoration. In his community, Don was a former mayor of Windcrest and an active participant in city government for over 20 years. He was dedicated to the Optimist Club, Lions Club, and the American Legion. Don will fondly be remembered for his devotion to his family and community. He was a loyal friend, a gentle spirit, and a man of utmost integrity. A funeral mass will celebrate his remarkable life on June 5, 2017 at 9:30 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in San Antonio. Interment with full military honors will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:30, followed by a reception at St. John Neumann. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wounded Warriors Fund.

I will remember Mr. Myles fondly. I work at Wild Birds Unlimited in Schertz. Being a regular customer of ours I had the pleasure of assisting him many times. It was always a pleasure to visit with him and share in his love of feeding the birds. He will be missed. Dee Pettersson

He was such a joy to know! Very dedicated to his community. Don will be missed by the Windcrest community in many ways. God Bless his wife and family during this difficult time.

I will always remember Don as a man who I listened to when he spoke because I learned that what he said had been thoroughly thought out. I'm not so sure I can say that about his Lion Jokes, but they too I bent my ear to carefully for the possible moral lesson. An honor to have known this great man.
My prayers are with his family and friends.
