Hazel Ellen (Suggs) Iverson passed away at home on February 23, surrounded by her loving family. Hazel was born Christmas Day, 1926 to Garland and Ellen Suggs. Her father was in the Navy and the family lived in many places in her young life. She came to San Diego as a young teen and attended San Diego High School where she met her future husband, Norman Iverson. She was a popular girl and made many friends, some of which she remained close to her entire life.Hazel and Norman were married after World War II and began a family. They are survived by their three children: Lorraine Iverson, Lynnette Mauzy and Dan Iverson. They are also survived by nine grandchildren,15 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. The Iverson family purchased a home in a new development, Allied Gardens, in the 1950s, where Hazel and Norman both lived the rest of their lives. (He passed in 1998)Hazel was a stay-at-home housewife and mother. She was very involved in the Allied Gardens Women's Club for many years and served as President at one time. After her kids were older she went to work selling cosmetics at several local department stores, among them Robinson's, Saks and I.Magnin.Hazel was deeply loved by her large family and many friends. She was kind, generous, out-spoken, inclusive and funny. She was the family matriarch and guide-post. The family is heart broken but knows she is at peace in the arms of God.

I was lucky enough to meet Hazel at I. Magnin. Her sense of humor and the twinkle in her eye was the initial reason we became friend, and we sustained our friendship for many years because of her charm and loyalty. She will remain in my heart forever.

My sincere condolences for the loss of your Mother. Hazel was one of my best friends at San Diego High School. I have such wonderful memories that I will always treasure. We both started families at about the same time and blended our family activities in those early years.
I will never forget you mothers' loving smile and generous spirit. Life won't be the same without her. My thoughts are with you.
