MICHAEL STONE Obituary

STONE, MICHAEL E. "Stone" as he was known by all, died on December 17, 2009, surrounded by friends and family, after a brief battle with melanoma cancer at Kaiser Zion. Although he was born by Long Beach, CA, in 1943, he spent his youth in Norco, CA, before his family moved to San Diego in the 60s where he resided for the rest of his life. Known as a tireless worker with an unparallel work ethic, he possessed a great sense of duty to job and employer. Stone, with his family, operated a couple of bars in San Diego in the 60s. Beginning in the 70s, he went to work for Fedco Stores for 20+ years in the Warehouse where he developed many friendships that would be lifelong. Starting in the early 90s, he also helped his son Peter, with his company, Amore Cheesecakes. He helped as delivery driver, guy Friday and as he loved to say, public relations. In the beginning of the decade, he went to work at Lowe's Home Improvement in Mission Valley. He first worked as a greeter (which was one of his favorite jobs of all times) and then moved to the Gardening Department, where he once again developed many new friendships and was loved by all. While work was his life and hobby, he was an avid Elvis and wrestling fan. However, over the years he traveled extensively to Asia, the Pacific and the Caribbean with his longtime love, Ethel, and others. His favorite trip was to Hong Kong in 1989. He is survived by his longtime love Ethel, son Peter, daughter Angie, nephew, two grandchildren, two great-nieces and many other relatives. A service will be held in the New Year. Information can be requested via email to [email protected] or contacting Ethel.

Mike Stone has left the building.
He is truely a gem and he will be missed. I'm sure he was greeted warmly in heaven by his friends, Hameister and Worsham, plus many others too numerous to mention. The man is a legend.

Ethel,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. David and Eric remember Michael so well and what a very, very good friend he was. Michael always made Dave feel so good when they were together. There are many wonderful times I will never forget. Most recently, I rembember going to Lowes on occasion and seeing Michael as the "Lowes greeter"!! Dave liked going to Lowes just so he could see his friend. I'm so glad he was able to travel with you and you were able to have "the time of your lives". My god, just think, he and Dave might be dancing and singing with Elvis at this very moment!!

Love to you and your family.....

Ethel, I think Michael would like this.

MISS ME-BUT LET ME GO

When I come to the end of the road
and the Sun has set for me
I want no Rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free.

Miss Me a little-But not to long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss Me-But let me go.

For this is a jorney that we must
all take, and each must go alone
It's all a part of the Master's Plan
A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart
Go to the friends we all know, and
Bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss Me-But let me go.

We love you and are here if you need us. Love you lots.

Mike was the kind of guy that could tell off a store manager, help a customer and flirt with the check out girls all at the same time. He had the type of freespirited charm and wild wit that most people just don't have the courage to show. I'll miss my friend and brother wanderer.

Ethel, and Family:
So sorry to hear about Mike. He was a great guy, always a smile on his face. Remember all the fun at the original Fedco. Those were the days, truly a family who cared about each other and customers. Will miss the smiling face too when we went to Lowe's. Now he and Dave are in charge of the warehouse in Heaven.

I remember when I was a young boy and I use to visit my great-grandmother's house in chula vista for christmas and holiday's. My Uncle Mike and I would go for a walk around the nieghborhood and pick up all the empty coke cans, beer cans etc., we could find and put them in a bag. Every memorable holiday I had as a child my Uncle Mike was there. Thank You Uncle Mike for the memories, and you WILL BE REMEMBERED!!!
Love your nephew,

I always loved walking around looking for coffee when we were on an island somewhere. Then he would just talk about stuff going on while we were sitting next to the water. One time when we were on a plane, I was acting like I was going to put my arm around this girl, and he kept looking back at me and laughing like crazy.. Only good memories of him... He was a great friend to have and I'll miss him alot.. Love Steve
