Richard Cox Obituary

Cox, Richard Lovell Jr. 12/30/1934 ~ 04/27/2013 SALEM, OR -- Richard was born in Matthews, MO, to Letha Jewell (Smith) Cox and Richard Lovell Cox, Sr. He passed away in Salem, OR, at age 78. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 and was stationed on the U.S.S. Comstock LSD 19. He served his country proudly on active duty until 1957 and was in the Naval Reserves until 1961. He graduated from San Diego State College in 1965. He worked for Equifax Services in San Diego, CA, and Santa Cruz, CA, for many years prior to his move to Oregon in 1983. He was employed as a manager for Radio Shack in Salem, OR, until his retirement in 2005. Rich enjoyed boating and was a member of the Helix Power Squadron in San Diego. He also enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, fishing, target shooting, golf and playing his guitar. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Hodges) Cox of Oregon; former wife, Alice Marie (Borlin) Cox; children, Steven Cox (Irma), Anna Ewers (Kevin), Kathy Scarvie (Will), David Cox and Eddie Cox (Claudia); grandchildren, Ian, Alexandra, Michael, Sarah, Isabella, William, Connor and Athena, all of California. Services will be held at Fort Rosecrans Nat'l Cemetery in San Diego, June 21, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. Contributions to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
