Mary Nelson Obituary

Nelson, Mary Jane SAN DIEGO -- This beautiful lady was born on April 10, 1937, in Camden, South Carolina to Ms. Rosalie Lee Wright. Mary was the second child of four children. Mary got her formal education from the Kershaw County Public School System. On April 16, 1956 she married the love of her life, John Henry Nelson. From this glorious union four children were born, Earl D. Nelson in February 1957; Wanda Y. Nelson, 1958; Reginald A. Nelson, 1959; all were born in Jacksonville, FL. Only Elisa Nelson in 1967, was born in San Diego, CA. Mary was employed at the Sheraton Harbor Island Hotel. Were she worked for 12 years as a maid supervisor. Later on in her career she went back to school. She received her A.A. Degree in Child-Development, and she worked for Head Start for three years. Mary really enjoyed her hobbies. Sewing was her first love. She made many fine garments and clothing for her family. Her next love was ceramics. Anyone who visited the Nelson household could see all of her art pieces. She was a master cook having to move all of the country due to her husband being in the Navy. She enjoyed cooking soul food dishes which her family would readily consume. It didn't stop there. She would easily whip up some Filipino and Guamanian classic dishes as well. Mary received God's Grace at a very young age! She really enjoyed going to Church 61 and Division Street, Church of Christ Salvation, was always on her mind. Mary is survived by her husband of 56 years, John H. Nelson of San Diego; her daughter, Wanda (Nelson) Washington of Topeka, Kansas; Reginald A. Nelson of San Diego; and Elisa Nelson of Topeka, Kansas. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, DeAndre, Deshana, Reginald, Tony, Porsha, Robert, Mark, Tubadrick, and Sonty; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her late mother, Rosalia Wright; her sister, Sue Hazel Lock of Washington D.C.; sister Della M. Wright of Camden, South Carolina; and her beloved son, Earl D. Nelson of San Diego. The Nelson Family would like to express our heart felt appreciation for your love and support during these most trying times.
