James Macrae Obituary

James "Sticks" Edward Macrae James "Sticks" Macrae was born on August 1, 1939, in New York City to Lester Ion Macrae and Ruth Koch Macrae. He passed peacefully on January 12, 2017. At the age of three years, the family moved to San Luis Obispo where he lived ever since. At an early age, Jim learned about the miracle of music and percussion. Rhythm surrounded him like his beloved San Luis Obispo region. As a teen, he gained the nickname "Sticks" for his constant drumming on things, anything, but with a beat. Music was one of his passions in life, the other being his family and friends. In 1977, he met the love of his life, Kathe Heinz, and they were married in 1979, and a larger family was formed. Life was filled with gigs, great music, many bands, friends, family, and a lot of love. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Kathe; sister Linda Macrae; son Joel Robert Macrae; stepdaughter Denise Reynolds; and stepsons Sam and Robert Hanna. Services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, February 4, 2017, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 800 Bello Street, Pismo Beach, Calif., 93449, with a reception following. Jiim's wry, witty character stands foremost in my mind, as I have witnessed it many times in the years that we played music together in my HS band The Rockets and later, The Revels. We enjoyed making music and the band(s) were blessed to have him setting the beat. He was a true musician in that he did exactly that and was very good at it. RIP Jim, may the beat go on. My condolences to his family. Gil Serna
