I remember Ron S. and Joe G. introducing me to you and it was a great honor to spend time with you at the studio discussing the arts and Bill. You are sorely missed, Dan.

I just tried calling Dan and his number was "disconnected".
I´d not been in touch with Dan since before leaving California in 2016, nor with mutual acquaintances. I´m saddened to hear of his passing. We were friends. I´d curated his gallery in Idyllwild in 2002. Then I worked for him on commission. Since I´d not sold one piece when I decided I´d had enough of working in a gallery Dan let me choose one of his works for my efforts. He was very gracious. Above my bed still hangs his lithograph En Su Interior from his series on The Strengths of Navajo Women. From then ´til now it has held space for my journey within.
I was privileged to visit Dan´s studio and print shop in Santa Cruz on a couple of occasion. Even then I wondered if he was not a Fox rather than Coyote. Perhaps a little bit of both.
I have fond memories of Dan as Coyote but also as a gentle and kind human being. My favorite picture of Dan is the one where he is sitting at his little table on the deck between the gallery and the Cafe´ with his blue Spirit can, beneath the pines rolling a stock pile of cigs.
Love the eulogy. Thank you.
Aho!

Dan,
Can't say I'm "surprised." Last couple times I saw you it was clear your body was failing you.
But I am still selfishly saddened to learn of your departure.
Though we never developed a "close" relationship, with each of us on the way to doing whatever the next right thing was on our paths, I felt we shared a mutual respect and finding myself in the same room with you always lifted my spirits.
People better versed and more articulate than I in the field can, and will I'm sure, speak to the power and impact your work had.
For my part, I can only say I am grateful to have shared the planet with you for much of my journey through this life.
And as you leave, I send you on with blessings for an informative and ecstatic sojourn in whatever lies beyond.
Cheers, brother. Your presence was felt; you will be missed.
