Tacey Levis Obituary

TACEY LEVIS Tacey Levis, born Esther Marie Libby, died peacefully at her home surrounded by family on September 23, 2016. She was preceded in death by her brother Freddy, parents Norman and Esther Libby, and brother "Chappy" Libby. Born July 12, 1942, Esther was raised on her family's ranch in Bueyeros, New Mexico. As the first of three girls born to Norman and Esther Libby, she was named for her mother and later nicknamed "Tacey". After graduating from Amistad High School, she left behind the family ranch. Tacey attended and graduated from the University of Arizona where she met her husband, Michael Bruton Levis. Tacey considered her college education and marriage the beginnings of an adventurous life. Although some of her life's adventures were cloaked in hardships, Tacey was driven to endure and go forward with renewed value and strength. She lived in 28 homes in a variety of locations including Germany, Ohio, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Georgia, and finally back home to New Mexico in 1979. Tacey planted seeds wherever she lived and found ways to grow wherever she was planted. She was a woman of impeccable poise and astonishing warmth, whose graciousness and profound determination proved inspiring to an endless number of friends, family, and acquaintances. Family and friends greatly enriched Tacey's life. She is survived by Mike, her beloved husband of 54 years, her three children Yancey, Lauren, Ty and his wife Jess, and four adored grandchildren; twins Evan and Michael Levis, Julianna Levis, and Marri Levis-Eck. Her siblings, Robert "Chappy" Libby, Cora "Tuda" Libby Crews, Mary Campbell, and Norman "Junior" Libby gave her a wonderful crew of nieces and nephews to adore and celebrate. Tacey had a number of cousins with whom she shared a myriad of memories and laughs. It was Tacey's wish to have no funeral service. Her family will host two memorial celebrations of her life. The first will be held at 2:00pm, October 23rd at the Galisteo Community Center, 35 Avenida Vieja in Galisteo, NM. The next one will be held at the Mission of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Bueyeros, NM at 11:00am on Saturday, November 5th. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent towards research resources for the Vasculitis Foundation, The Cancer Foundation for New Mexico, or the charity of your choice.
