Pat and Mary were Leadville and post-Leadville friends...they were unique, gracious and fun friends. I learned from them how to properly host a dinner party and sauna and ski and cook and laugh.

Pat was a very close friend of my step father, Dr. Franklin Aldrich. I met him several times as a kid, and even ran the Bolder Boulder with he and Frank one year. I heard many wonderful stories about him over the years. I found out recently that he was in Santa Fe in a rehab facility. I am finishing an emergency medicine residency in Albuquerque, and when my mom came down to visit, we spent an afternoon with him there. It was so great to see him after all this time. He was a really great, kind, and honorable man.
I happened to be the physician staffing the Medical ICU the night Pat was transferred to UNM. I was able to be there with him at the very end. He had a familiar face there and I'm so very glad that I could give him maybe a little bit of comfort. The rest of the staff loved him and went out of their way to comfort him. To all those who knew and loved him, I thought you should know that he wasn't alone at the end. I worked at total of 7 nights in the ICU this year. What are the chances of that happening? Far too much of a coincidence, in my mind, having just seen and spent a lot of time with him two weeks earlier after almost two decades!!! It was a blessing.
Peace to Pat and Mary. I hope they are together again.

I am grateful that Pat was my friend and teacher and later, my client. When i was a young lawyer, Pat shared his knowledge and wisdom of mining and safety and investigations. He shared his astute insights into modern history and philosophy and his many stories and humor and opinions on topics ranging from J Edgar to World War II, to Viet Nam protestors (like me). He accepted me regardless of my views or background, far removed from his. He offered sound advice and the lessons of a seasoned, experienced expert, while producing smiles and laughs on difficult days and giving me the great gift of his friendship and trust. I've missed Pat for the many years since his retirement, but was fortunate to have visited with him and Mary in Santa Fe, where his teaching continued with a visit to a native American village and a southwestern resturant tucked away in the foothills of the mountains. I can still see him today, putting on those dark sunglasses, pointing at the setting sun, and telling this easterner -- this is the west!!
While I am comforted by the knowledge that Pat and Mary are reunited and resting in some beautiful corner of heaven, I'm sad for the world and for myself that he is no longer with us, offering that special smile and that little piece of advice that made the difference between winning and losing, and doing so with grace. When Pat pronounced, "NOW WAIT A SECOND," all ears listened because he commanded the room with his presence and knowledge. God Bless Pat and Mary who shared so much with so many. Henry Chajet

We were deeply saddened to hear of Pat's passing. He was a longstanding friend and colleague in the mine safet and health field-- an area where he developed a well-deserved national reputation for expertise and dedication. As a Montanan transplanted to DC, I enjoyed joshing him about the relative merits of growing up in Butte and Havre. He and Mary were the kindest of hosts to those of us lucky enough to visit them in Santa Fe. They were genuine and delightful friends to so many people in so many places. God bless them both.

What sad news. Pat was a dear friend for many years. We shared many interests and just hit it off. Our conversations frequently took place on Decoration Day and Armistice Day (he didn't care for the modern terms). I'll miss those calls - I'll miss Pat. RIP Pat.
