FERNANDO GARAVITO Obituary

Fernando Garavito Dreamed of being a saint and, loyal to this desire, he made himself honest and truthful. As a loving husband and dedicated father, he formed a family where love and support have always been unconditional. His sincere and critical spirit brought him to fight for his country, through his writings, denouncing those who would prevent the flowering of peace, equality and wellbeing in Colombia. His commitment to this crusade led him to exile, where he continued to sow his ideals from abroad until his last day. His passion for literature made him an exceptional teacher who knew how to instill the love for each letter of the alphabet. He was an award-winning author. His thought, which sailed between mountains of philosophy and clouds of poetry, established profound reflections about the intangible in the human heart. On Wednesday October 27, Fernando Garavito departed this world, bequeathing us the light of his existence. On Tuesday, November 2, we will gather at the St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe at 10 a.m. to bid him farewell upon his journey. His path to the beyond lies before him, and Priscilla is waiting there to begin their eternal embrace. Arrangements are under the direction of Berardinelli Family Funeral Service 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505 (505) 984-8600

I am a Colombian living in the US. I had always admire Mr. Garavito's resolution when he had to stand for his believes. I admired his love for our country and his courage when he had to open his mind and heart and talked about the unfairness and injustice in our country.
May God bless him and keep his soul and heart forever between us. My condolences go to his kids and family

Dear Fernando Jr.
I only just this minute (as the memorial is happening, I imagine) heard this terribly shocking and sad news... I am so sorry. I didn't know him well, but your father was a strikingly beautiful soul. It made me happy every time I would see him at the Outpost Performance Space or elsewhere... usually with you. What a beautiful relationship you had together. That was so very clear. My God, I can only imagine how sad you must be and how much you will miss him. My deepest and sincerest condolences, my friend. I hope to see you soon. abrazos fuerte para usted y su familia. hasta pronto. Tom Guralnick

Dearest Manuela and Fernando Jr.

You both have two wonderful guardian angels watching over both of you! Words can not take away the emptiness and pain you feel today. Treasure the beautiful memories you hold deep with in your heart. My thoughts and prayers go out to you both during this time of sorrow.

God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I can not change..
Courage to change the things I can and Wisdom to know the difference.

Con todo mi amor
