Antonio Arellanes Obituary

Antonio Arellanes, Jr. It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Antonio Arellanes, Jr., a visionary artist whose luminescent and extraordinary work has long fascinated its viewers. Proclaimed by many observers to be, perhaps, the premier "illuminist" of contemporary art, Antonio lived in both Taos, New Mexico and Hanapepe, Kauai, Hawaii. He owned and operated TIMESPACE GALLERY in Hanapepe and has operated a TIMESPACE GALLERY in Taos in previous years. He organized weekly art shows that were held in Taos to showcase local artists and their work. The same opportunity is currently offered on Kauai for the exposure of local artists. Educated at the Chicago Art Institute, Antonio developed his unique painting genre that utilizes high-tech materials as a surface for his brushwork. He developed multi-dimensional brushstrokes by painting on reflective and holographic mylars. His paintings are complemented by the use of sacred geometric images, especially the circle/mandala. He took meticulous care in the use of proper lighting to ensure optimum viewing of his cosmic images. Dr. Leonard Shlain, author of ART AND PHYSICS: PARALLEL VISION IN SPACE, TIME AND LIGHT, wrote: "Antonio Arellanes' work makes visible T.S. Eliot's observation: Great art can communicate before it is understood." As Antonio's great joy was sharing his paintings for others to see, his work can be viewed at Old World Fine Arts in Taos, NM, The McDaniel Collection, located on the grounds of the Inn at Rancho de San Juan, Ojo Caliente, NM, Alan Day Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe, NM and at Contemporary Fine Arts in LaJolla, California. He is proceeded in death by his mother, Isela. Survived by his father, Antonio Arellanes, Sr. of El Paso, Texas, also a well known artist, two sisters, Bertha of El Paso Texas and Jeannette of Tucson, Arizona; brother, Carlos also of El Paso, Texas. Their are multiple other family members. At long last, Antonio has ascended from DARK and reached the LIGHT that he was so intrigued by. His Family is joined by a host of friends and collectors who will certainly miss this brilliant "starman." A Memorial Gathering is planned for November 23, 2008, at 2 p.m. to be held at The McDaniel Collection Gallery. Please e-mail [email protected] for details.

A Reminiscence

YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.

May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.

Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;

To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.
