DENNIS OXFORD CULVER Painter, musician, Dennis Culver, age 66, died at his Santa Fe home on June 1, 2011 of pancreatic cancer. Born February 4, 1945 to Caroline Maxey Culver and the late William O. Culver. Dennis is survived by his mother, Caroline; wife, Nancy Strell; daughter, Rainaia; grandchildren, Dason and Freyja; sister and brother-in-law, Candy and Neal Coburn; nephew, Willy and wife, Jenny. Dennis was not just one more talented artist. He was deeply creative and his spirit affected and inspired all whom he met. Born in Hollywood, he seemed destined to spread some of it's stardust. His friends and family experienced his gentle kindness, wry sense of humor, intellect, political acumen, and love of nature. All of these things found visual form in his masterful drawings and paintings, collected by admirers all over the world. Dennis' friends and family will more than miss him; he was an integral part of their lives. We can still hear his infectious laughter and the funny voices that warmed their way into our hearts. Like a Buddhist sage, Dennis observed the world and laughed. A Memorial service honoring Dennis Culver's life will be held at the International Folk Museum, Santa Fe, July 18th at 5 p.m.
