Thinking about you, Binky

September 1, 2012

Hi Ethaan this is your mom sending you a message. I hope you are talking shop with your grandpa. I miss you so much and am trying to adjust. It is too hard. You have a new niece born two weeks ago. She look like you as a baby. Tomorrow is my birthday, I was hoping to get one of your goofy cards with a loving hug. Anne came today to see the baby and we talked about how we miss you so much. Sending my love and today I took a picture of the baby and it resembled you in a ghostly way and that was so strange. I have the picture on my camera and above the ghostly picture was a bright light. I know it was you smiling at me and it was not an image of the baby. Love I see you in my dream every night. Your mommy dearest...Janet

I knew Ethaan from Golden West Elementary and Manteca High. I was thrilled when I found out he was going to Cal and even more thrilled when my husband and I got to watch him perform in the Cal band.
I hope that his family can take comfort in so many outpourings of feelings about Ethaan.

Ethaan was everyone in the neighborhood's little brother. We all watched out for him and we all loved him. Whether he was swimming in someone's pool or having a three day war we watched out for him because he was so sweet and so adorable we couldn't help ourselves. He grew up and he continued to touch everyone around him and he lived life to the fullest. He will be so incredibly missed by his loved ones. Sitting at his service today I was inspired by the life he lead. I haven't been as creative as I was in my younger years but in honor of the life that Ethaan lead I am going to make a change. He was only 34 and I will always remember him as that sweet little boy with the blonde hair and dimples. His life was cut short with so much left to create. So we must forge on and create in honor of him.

I was in the Cal Band with Ethaan and whenever I think of him I see him in his SHB uniform (Straw Hat Band) with his big smile and twinkle in his eye. We all left Cal and went our separate ways, but we are all still connected. My heart goes out to his wife and family. Please know you have a whole big Cal family thinking of you.

When I first met Ethaan we laughed for hours about the most rediculous things. It was then that I realized that I met someone with the quirkiest, unusual humor as my own. I remember saying to Annie, "your husband is crazy and you are so serious, a perfect fit you are." Cheryl and I love you both and have enjoyed every moment spent with you both!

Well, I tried to write from my grief, but all I hear is that wicked laugh of his compelling me to keep using each moment:
To design and create
To give full attention and energy to others
To be Zany (our favorite word)
So I won't waste words on sorrow . . .
I am so grateful for your life and the bits we got to share. I am completely proud of what you made with your time, womb buddy.
My absolute best Love goes out to Annie, your family, and everyone feeling this huge loss.

I never met Ethaan but judging by the kind, compassionate and wonderful person that he married I'm sure that we would have been good friends. Our deepest condolences to Annie and Ethaan's family for having one so bright, creative and intelligent taken from you - and us - so soon.

Ethaan burned screens for me - I met him at Warehouse 21 when my daughter and I took a class from him. He went out of his way to make my screens perfect and was fun and wonderful in every way to work with...so so sad that this tragedy took him from this world - he will be missed and never ever forgotten

I went to high school with Ethaan and heard from Morgan and Misty that this happened. Though we didn't stay in touch after graduation, I am still terribly saddened by this senseless loss. For those who were really close with him and who are suffering so much, I hope you find comfort with each other. Keith Carames (San Francisco, CA).

Ethaan was such a creative and positive person, never afraid to try new things and always willing to help other people bring their ideas to life. I'm so sorry that he's gone.

Ethaan was literally the nicest person in school. He transcended coolness; he was never part of the popular crowd because he was very studious. Human beings like him are rare and the World has suffered a huge loss. I will carry your spirit with me always. My heart hurts for your wife and family who must now attempt to continue on with Life without you.

I was blessed to have Ethaan as one of my best friends in elementary school. His intelligence, wit, and talent was evident even then.
