Larry Ogan Obituary

LARRY C. OGAN Larry C. Ogan of Santa Fe, NM passed through the Veil at 2:00 AM, August 7, 2015. Born July 3, 1948 in Clearfield, UT. He was an artist from infancy with wonderful cartoon drawings as a small child. He studied art at Weber State University in Ogden, UT, with two years of Fine Arts and two years of Commercial Art. Larry was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in Vietnam. He was assigned to the 82nd Airborne and the 25th Infantry Division. While serving he worked for G2, Army Intelligence, as a cartographer and contributed art to the Stars and Stripes newspaper. Larry and Ellen were married June 4, 1973, in Zephyr Cove, Lake Tahoe, NV. They were sealed for Time and all Eternity at Albuquerque LDS Temple on April 19, 2002. Larry was a gifted artist; professional volunteer for the arts in Santa Fe and New Mexico; paid Director of the Santa Fe Council for the Arts Inc. for 25 years. He curated art exhibits in Utah and New Mexico. He gently mentored individual artists and gave many artists the opportunity to show and sell their work. He volunteered for the Santa Fe Arts Commission Art in Public Places Committee for 10 years. Larry battled Bladder Cancer for 2 ½ years, the result of exposure to Agent Orange. For the last 15 years he cared for Ellen who is disabled by exposure to heavy metal (copper) poisoning. His tender care saved her life. He is survived by his eternal companion, Ellen M. Chadwick-Ogan of Santa Fe, NM; son, Christopher Balliett of Cochiti, NM, daughter, Deirdre B. Lloyd (David) of San Antonio, TX; grandsons, Jeremiah Balliett of Santa Fe, NM, Axel Lloyd, Bram Lloyd both of New Orleans, LA, brother, James Ogan (Suzie) of Shell Knob, MO; sister, Jeanette Ogan of Colorado Springs, CO, dearest friend, Barbara Emerson Kitsman Jeneki. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 4 PM followed by a service at 5 PM, located at 410 Rodeo Rd. Private Burial will be held at The Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Christopher Balliett, Bryce Petersen, Jeremiah Balliett, James Ogan, Steve Paul and Lee Onstott.
