CECILIA VARELA Obituary
Cecilia M. Varela, 72, passed away peacefully at her home in Pecos on Wednes- day, May 12, 2021.
She was born on November 22, 1948 to the union of Fermin Valencia Sr. and Mercedes Bowles Valencia.
Cecilia, a lifelong resident of Pecos, retired after 25+ years with the Pecos Independent School District. After her retirement, she enjoyed time with her family, reading, going to the mountains, fishing, and spending time at the family ranch. A woman of strong faith, Cecilia traveled on religious pilgrimages across Europe with a group from Pecos.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her son, James Varela; her parents; in-laws, Ricardo and Celia (Quintana) Varela; brothers, Fermin Jr., Eloy, and Orlando Valencia; brother-in-law, Roy Varela; and sisters-in-law, Celina Baca and Agnes Valencia.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Wilfred Varela Sr.; children, Brenda Archuleta and husband Jamie, and Wilfred Varela Jr.; grandchildren, Elijah Varela, Jeremiah Varela, Maria Archuleta, Andres Archuleta, James Varela, and Allysha Varela; and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Jordynn; her siblings, Bernie (Viola) Valencia, George (Mary Jane) Valencia, Clara (David) López, Minnie (Fidel) Rivera, Gary (Rosalie) Valencia, and Martha (Michael) Flores; in-laws, Gloria (Jack) Towers, Roxanne Varela, and Diana (Abel) Montoya; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
In honoring her wishes, there will be no services.

There is nothing steadfast in life but our memories. We are sure of keeping intact only that which we have lost. Cecelia was like the fragrance of a violet you never forget it. Immortal love sows sovereign seeds and Cecelia will continue to water the seeds of love and courage. A strong, smart, beautiful soul has left us but the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. Beloved Varela, Valencia, Lopez and extended families:
My heartfelt condolences on the loss of Cecilia.
When she worked for Pecos Schools, we were greeted at Central Office with her warm ambiance and her smile was always present. Her professionalism was enhanced by her humor and constant support. Her decorum was authentic and "simpatico".
She earned her wings both personally and professionally.
Beautiful person/soul.
She was a strong woman who cared for her family and enriched many lives.
Her pilgrimage is with Our Lord and His angels. Know that she is watching her family and is with family and that left before her. Cecilia is flying high with no pain. We will meet again.
I'm sending prayers, hugs, love, and blessings during this heartbreaking time. Wish I could do more.
