Cody Cornelson Obituary

Cody Allan Cornelson
Cody Allan Cornelson, 26, died at his home in Orcutt, California on Sunday, October 9, 2011. He was born on December 21, 1984 in Santa Maria, CA to Debbie (Downing) Spring, of Orcutt and Randy Cornelson, of Huntington Beach. He grew up and attended schools in Santa Maria/Orcutt.
Cody was greatly loved by everyone who met him. He loved his son, Blake, more than anything in the universe. The sibling bond between Cody and his sister, Courtney and husband, Andy Kruger will never be broken. He lived life to the fullest, enjoying the outdoors biking, hiking, sports, snow, learning about vineyards, visiting with family and friends, mixed martial arts and much, much more. Everyone he met was a lifetime friend which he treasured. He will be loved and missed more than words can say.
Most currently, Cody was a full-time student at Allan Hancock College where he was working on his Kinesiology Degree, planning on working for his doctorate to become a Physical Therapist. His goal after graduation was to work with wounded soldiers (after taking a year off to hike around the world with his son). He worked at the Radisson, Applebee's, and Williams-James Cellars. He served in the Army for several years, based in Washington, Germany, and Iraq. He came home to raise his son and begin his college education.
Cody was preceded in death by his Grandparents: Donald and Janis (Claborn) Downing, Don Tatalo, Uncle: Doug Downing, Aunt: Tami Cornelson, and numerous other family members.
Cody is survived by his son, Blake Cornelson, Mom and Step-Dad, Debbie and Mark Spring (Orcutt), Father, Randy Cornelson (Huntington Beach), Sister and Brother(in-law), Courtney and Andy Kruger (Orcutt), Grandmother, Betty Tatalo (Huntington Beach), Great-Grandmother, Benay Spring (Oroville), Nephews, Andrew George and Jacob Kruger, Niece, Kaylee Kruger, Cousins, Tiffany Downing, Brandon & Cindy Conradi-Cornelson, Breanna & Bryan Roinstead (and Riley), Uncles & Aunts, Darrel & Michelle Downing (Tiffany) (Orcutt), Ken & Jaylene Cornelson (Texas), Nick Tatalo (Huntington Beach), Craig & Jenny Spring (Jessica & Riley)(Australia), Jamie & Kathy Spring (Vincent, Shannon, Daniel and Quinn)(Gridley) along with many, many other relatives (including all the Claborn Crew).
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Santa Maria Cemetery. The family and "extended family" gathered for a "Celebration of Life" on Saturday, October 15, 2011.
Personal notes about your favorite memories of Cody can be emailed (8-1/2" x11") to: [email protected] - We will be compiling a memory book for Blake.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Cody's memory can be made to a charity of your choice or: Cancer, Military Support for wounded/injured veterans, or for our children. A scholarship fund has been set up for his son, Blake at Coast Hills Federal Credit Union, 2364 S. Bradley, Suite F1, Santa Maria, CA 93455.
Arrangements are in the care of Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Crematory, 600 East Stowell Road, Santa Maria, CA 93454 (805) 925-2753

Though I did not get to see you a lot, you were always more like a big brother to me rather than a cousin. I looked up to you and I wanted to me like you. Although it has been years since you left us, it feels like it was just yesterday. We love and miss you Cody, and we will always remember you.

There aren't enough words to express how you've impacted my life. As my friend, husband, and father of our son. You were amazing at everything you did. I remember thinking how talented you were at everything you tryed ecspecially sports. I see that in Blake too amongst other great things that resemble you. I don't think i'll ever make sense of all this but what i do know is that a huge part of you will always be with and live through our son Blake. I will always love you Cody. And all the memories you've given us. Xoxoxoxo

In the Tree of Life…Our roots are forever intertwined. With their last breath those we have greatly loved do not say good-bye- for love is timeless. Instead, they leave us with a solemn promise - when they are finally at rest in God, they will continue to be present to us whenever they are called upon. Let us not grieve -beyond letting go - for in the Tree of Life their roots and ours are forever intertwined. Unknown

May Cody live on in the hearts of all who had the opportunity to know him. He will be greatly missed.

My thoughts are with your family during this though time right now. All I can do is hold on to the great memories of throwing food at each other when we worked at Stinky's together because it was just fun and we loved to screw around. And then the day I ran into you at my Companies Christmas party when you had just gotten back to town, I swear I spent more time at the front desk then I did in that actual party... I was so happy to see you!! I miss you more each passing day, but know that I will see you again one day. Watch over all of us and keep us all safe. xoxo

Cody was always the one guy out of all of us that always had something positive to bring to the table.

Whenever we (or myself specifically) were feeling down, Cody was right there to bring a positive outlook to things, to bring something funny or releaving to the table that would get our mind off whatever was bothering us. I remember so clearly; many times in Germany that when I would be disgruntled about what was happening in our unit, he would find a way to bring out the positive and make me find something good out of what was going on.

He was a natural born leader, even if his rank didn't completely represent it, he was; a leader in some way to all of us. There were many fun and adventurous things that I did not partake in with Cody and others while overseas that I now wish so much that I had. However despite a few missed adventures we did share many good times, and I did confide in him many times on situations that I, and others, were dealing with.

He was a one in a million kind of guy, he truly was. None of us will quite be the same without him, and all of us have been changed from having had the pleasure of knowing him. As I said before, he was one hell of a guy; someone that everyone could wish they would have the pleasure of knowing at somepoint in their lives.

I'll never forget his laugh and his smile that distinguished him from so many like us. We all loved him like a brother; and someone we all could say we strived to be like. Love you Bro.
