Joe was an avid golfer, played with the Senior Blitz and even recorded a hole-in-one (he states that he had 2 but we cannot verify). He was a member of the MPC of Savannah, Chairman of the Republican Party, Chairman of the Senior Citizens Board and past President of the Insurance Agents of Savannah.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Helen Rovolis Sullivan, son Richard (Beth), daughter Sharon Stewart (Dick), son Michael (Carolyn), son Shane (Deborah) and brother Dan (Emily). Nine Grandchildren and 14 3/4 great grandchildren.

Like so many of my father's friends, Joe Sullivan was a true model of friendship and decency. He was someone I always admired, trusted and looked up to - even after I eventually grew to be a little taller. I always felt that Joe Sullivan as a role model was so far beyond any aspiration I could strive to attain; and at the same time, he was never out of reach to any of his friends to offer help and advice. It was an honor and a pleasure to have known Joe in life - for more actual years than I knew my own father - and as far back as I can remember. I wish all of Joe's family - and all those whose hearts are as heavy as mine as a result of our loss of this great man - the peace that comes with knowing we were all very fortunate to have known the very best a human can be as a friend, father and husband.
