Rosalyn Ashcraft Darby

Rosalyn Darby Obituary

Rosalyn Ashcraft Darby -Savannah- Rosalyn Ashcraft Darby, 77, died September 13, 2006, at her residence in Savannah, due to a long illness. She was the youngest child of the late Ingram and Naoma Hughes Ashcraft and was preceded in death by her brothers, Ingram Ashcraft Jr. and Clifton Ashcraft, who died in childhood. Her father's naval career took the family throughout the ports of the Southeastern U.S. during World War II, although she particularly cherished her childhood residence at a naval camp on the banks of the Black Warrior River. She attended the University of Alabama before marrying and moving to Rome, Georgia, where she reared her three children. When divorce displaced her from her role as homemaker, she took a series of production jobs, finally retiring after 11 years with Temple -Inland's sawmill. She was a master needleworker and loved to crochet presents for her family and friends. She was especially proud of the college degrees and careers attained by her children. She moved to Savannah, a city she had enjoyed visiting repeatedly for the past 20 years, three years ago when her health failed. Surviving are two daughters, Jane Studard, Rome, and Betty Darby, Savannah; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Leigh Darby and their son, Jeremy Godsey, all of Tennessee; a grandson, Walter Studard, Atlanta; and her fondly regarded dog, Mary, the last in a series of beloved pets. Memorial Services will be held at sea, at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief, P.O. Box 9068, New York, NY 10087.
