Loucas Dimou Obituary

Loucas Stathis Dimou - SAVANNAH - Loucas Stathis Dimou, 88, devoted loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014. His family was the shining light of his life. Luke was born on August 14, 1926 in Brockton, MA. A graduate of Bordentown Military Institute, Bordentown, NJ and Northeastern University, Boston, MA, he went on to serve in the United States Merchant Marines and the United States Army during World War II. In 1951, Luke was the founder and owner of John Addison Footwear, Marlboro, MA. Then in 1962 he formed Addison Shoe Corporation, Wynne, AR. He sold the company to Engelhard Corporation. At the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., there is on display a pair of United States Army boots manufactured by his company. While residing in Weston, MA, he was a member of Weston Golf Club and of the Paul Revere Masonic Lodge of Brockton, MA. The family moved to Memphis, TN in 1963. First and foremost, his time spent with family was most meaningful. After retiring in 1967, Luke's priority was to build even more memories with his wife and children. He also enjoyed travel and playing golf. Frequently wearing his apron, he loved to cook for his family and friends, and could also be found in the church kitchen. Much of his free time was spent volunteering, which brought him great fulfillment over the years. He was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, Germantown, TN where he served on the Vestry and acted as Treasurer. He also served as Chairman of the Board of St. George's Independent Day School. Luke was on the Search Committee for Bishop of West Tennessee and on the Commission of Ministry. At St. Francis Hospital, Memphis, TN, he was a volunteer in the Tumor Registry Department. Luke received the Tennessee Volunteer of the Year Award in 1984. He also enjoyed being a member of Chickasaw Country Club, Memphis, TN and was a founding member of Germantown, TN Rotary. Having spent summers throughout his life on Cape Cod, Luke and Connie moved to Barnstable, MA where they lived from 1984-1991. Their last move was to Savannah, GA in 1991. His early years on Skidaway Island were filled meeting new people, hitting that little white ball, finding his new favorite butcher and fresh fishery, and of course, again volunteering which he did at Hospice Savannah. Luke is survived by his wife of 61 years, Constance (Connie) A., as well as 4 children: Corinne Welsh (Scott) of CT, Stacy Dimou of ME, Joan Connelly (Michael) of Savannah, GA, and Elizabeth (Fran ois) Mary-Vall e of France, and 7 grandchildren: Christina (Qahir) Madhany, Leigh Welsh, Henry Welsh, Lucas Howerter, Sarah Howerter, C me Mary-Vall e, and Sol ne Mary-Vall e. He was predeceased by his parents, Stathis L. Dimou and Angelina Dimou, a sister, Helen Carvounis, and a brother, Peter Dimou. A service of remembrance and celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 12 at 11am at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Skidaway Island. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be given in Luke's name to St. George's Independent School, 1880 Wolf River Blvd, Collierville, TN 38017, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 3 West Ridge Road, Savannah, GA 31411, or Hospice House, 1352 Eisenhower Street, Savannah, GA 31406. I have wonderful memories of my childhood friend, Elizabeth's, debonair father! My memories include all of the unique and beautiful Dimou's, as well as the house on Shady Grove Road in Memphis, which was enough to spawn a child's wonder! My heartfelt love to all of you at this time. Mr. Dimou will forever be in my memory for his kindness, gentleness and grace.

Mrs. Dimou, I am so saddened by the loss of Mr. Dimou. He was one of my favorite customers at Volvo over the years and always knew how to make me smile. His warmth, kindness and ability to make me laugh always made my day brighter. He was truly one of the good guys and a true gentleman. He always spoke so highly of his grandchildren and how much he loved to spend time with them and his children. I know he will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

Dear Connie: Marilyn and I were so sad to hear via Dave Walton that Luke had passed. Certainly one of the fondest memories we have of life at the Landings was sharing golf and good times with you two!!
