Elizabeth Muller Obituary

Elizabeth Healy Muller - SAVANNAH - Elizabeth Healy Muller died peacefully at home on June 16, 2016. She was born on May 15, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Edward J. Healy and Eleanor B. Healy and grew up in Bryn Mawr. She graduated from The Shipley School and from the University of Pennsylvania where she received a B.A. degree in Creative Writing. At Penn she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and participated in a number of activities, including varsity tennis and badminton. After her sophomore year she was selected to take a course in creative writing at Harvard under a noted professor at the time. Years later, she became a charter member of The Penn Club of New York. Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 55 years, Frederick (Ted) Lawrence Muller, her son, Frederick Reynolds Muller, daughter-in-law, Adele Akins Muller and her three precious grandchildren, Anna, Thomas and Andrew, all in Savannah. Other surviving family members include a brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law and eight nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her parents and by her three brothers John, Robert and Edward Healy. After college Elizabeth worked as a librarian at the Penn Law School, for a prominent Wall Street law firm and at the University of Rhode Island, near the homeport of her husband's U.S. Navy ship. Elizabeth had a strong interest in art and served as a docent at the Brooks Gallery in Memphis and at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. She was a board member of the Peachtree Garden Club and an active supporter of the Atlanta Symphony. She enjoyed playing tennis with friends for many years. A world wide traveler, Elizabeth visited numerous countries on five continents and took great pleasure in learning about different cultures. After living in Atlanta for almost 30 years, Elizabeth moved to Savannah in 1996 upon her husband's retirement. Soon thereafter she became a member of St. John's Church and later did volunteer work at the Green Meldrim House. She served as president of the Isaiah Davenport House, was a board member of The Historic Savannah Foundation and was affiliated with the Trustees Garden Club of Savannah. Having a keen sense of humor and cheerful attitude, she greatly enjoyed her many friends and the special time she spent with her LLC Dinner Group. The family wishes to thank Hospice Savannah and her caregivers for their contributions and dedication to Elizabeth's well being. A graveside service for family and all friends will be at Bonaventure Cemetery at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 23. A reception will follow.
