Robert Kleber Obituary
He was born in Buffalo, New York in 1935, the youngest of 8 children to Edward Charles and Laurian Zettel Kleber. The family moved to Massachusetts and was raised in Winchester where he met his wife Ruth Kleber. A graduate of Boston College, he entered the service in 1958 under the ROTC program as a 2nd LT, Medical Service Corp. Subsequent tours took him and his family to Texas, Oklahoma, Alaska, Washington D.C., Massachusetts and San Francisco. He served in Vietnam. His medals include Legion of Merit (10LC), Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (10LC) and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
After retirement, COL Kleber worked with his nephew, Ralph Champion at Sandfly Fine Wines in Savannah where he was known to all as Uncle Bobby or COL Bob.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth, his son Mark, of Pooler, GA and his daughters and sons-in-law, Laurian and Jacques Marchand of North Andover, MA and Leslie and Gary Young of McKinney, TX, his grandchildren, Lia Marchand, Robert Young, Ross Marchand, Jay Marchand (Kassandra) and Cathleen Young and his great grandson William Jay. He is also survived by his sister, Jane Champion, and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he kept in touch with through 5 year family reunions and facebook.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation from 4 pm until 6 pm Monday, January 8, 2018 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors. Hodgson Chapel.
Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Savannah Humane Society and Salvation Army.
The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Gifford Lorenz and his staff, Dr. Dolores Foley, Taley, and all of the caring nurses in the Bronch Suite and 6th floor of Candler Hospital.
