Geoffrey Harrison Obituary

Geoffrey "Geoff" E. Harrison
Savannah
Geoffrey Eric Anthony Harrison was born in London, England on May 24th, 1953 to Gwendoline Marie Gibbs Harrison and Leo Peter Harrison. He spent his childhood in England with his younger sister Louise, where Geoff developed a love of soccer and achieved mild local fame after winning a Butlin's Holiday Camp beauty pageant at age 5.
Geoff and Louise joined their mother in Maryland in 1966, where Geoff joined the Drama Club and studied foreign languages such as French, German, and American-accented English at Oxon Hill High School. After graduating in 1971, Geoff was a Navy SeaBee for three years, serving in Little Creek, Virginia, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean.
Geoff was the first in his family to go to college, attending the University of Maryland and the Life Chiropractic College in Atlanta where he earned BAs in Economics and Dance and a Doctorate in Chiropractic. Geoff also earned a teaching certificate from Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Throughout his career, Geoff danced up and down the East Coast, owned and operated a chiropractic business, and taught science in Savannah public schools. He was also very active at Asbury Memorial Church and with the Savannah theater. "Chef Geoff's" hobbies included creating mosaic art, cooking delicious meals, exploring the Tybee tidal pools and nearby nature trails, and watching soccer games. He also enjoyed family time at the beach, doing embroidery, and singing in the church choir. Geoff adored his family and loved making them laugh.
After a 4 year battle with cancer, Geoffrey transitioned on February 12th, 2021. Geoff is survived by his wife of 26 years, Susan Oliver Harrison; his sister Louise Harrison (Anya Darrow); his children Chelsea Harrison (Daniel Short) of Rhode Island, Colin Harrison, Chloe Harrison, and Chase Harrison of Savannah; grandson Aiden Short of RI; and beloved dogs Beau and Bella.
A virtual celebration of Geoff's life will be held Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 2 pm. For more information, contact Asbury Memorial Church.

To the Harrison Family - Mr. Harrison left an amazing legacy at Coastal Middle School - one of love and support for not only the students, but his fellow colleagues. And he gave us Colin to continue to live out that legacy. We count ourselves as tremendously blessed by the Harrison family. Thank you for sharing both with us.

I remember he was so helpful my first year teaching at Coastal Middle School. He had great advice for this new teacher. My condolences to my coworker Colin and his family.

Thinking of your Dad this morning. I think he taught at CMS before my time, but the Povies and Harrisons have been attending church together for over 20 years. Colin I will miss your Dad. He was the most enthusiastic, creative, and talented person I know of. His VBS room was always decorated so nicely and better than mine could ever be! He was always smiling. My condolences to you and your family.
