Julie Cyr Obituary

BELFAST, Maine - Julie Cyr, known as Lulu to her five grandchildren, was born December, 29, 1953 in Waterville, Maine. She passed peacefully on December 28, 2019, at 3 a.m., in her home in Belfast, Maine one day short of her 66th Birthday. She was surrounded by her family.

Julie was a true renaissance person who excelled at everything that caught her interest. She was a professional musician, renowned school nurse, gourmet chef, gardener and a celebrated artist whose paintings were displayed at galleries throughout New England. Described as a force of nature, Julie's zeal for life was palpable and she touched the lives of all who were lucky enough to know her. Julie's irreverent wit was second only to her generosity. She welcomed all into her heart.

She is survived by her husband Bob Gallo, her four children, five grandchildren and four siblings.

Julie & Bob were our favorite (and only!) Belfast Bradbury Street neighborhood landlords, and Julie was the no nonsense landlady in residence who always got it done when Bob was away, her 'irreverent wit' notwithstanding. Betsy and I both miss those Thanksgiving Turkey's on our deck, and the birds, too! Walking down town on art Fridays will never be the same without Julie's booming voice, glass of wine and her friendly laughter, echoing 'come again'!

To Julie's family- although I never met Julie I purchased several of her paintings and enjoy them every day. She was a painter's painter and so gifted in so many ways. I am sending my heartfelt condolences to the entire family. May your wonderful memories ease your sadness and lift your spirits. Godspeed Julie! Lexi Watson, Alexandria VA

Julie Is someone who is unforgettable. My daughters, when they were very little, participated in the childrens chorus with Julie. My daughter Emily took piano lessons from her. After piano lesson Julie would hoot and holler, give Emily big hugs and then grab a handful of pennies whatever was handy - once it was a ring ding pastry- as a present for playing so well! Emily is still playing the piano and singing and I will always think fondly of Julie for being so inspirational . Ti her family and friends I am so sorry for your loss, what a treasure. I'm sad and shocked to read about Julie's death as
I met her in the late 80s in Portsmouth. I will
always remember her vitality and singing and
painting talents. What a loss to our community.

Our family was heartbroken to hear the news of Julie's passing. Nurse Julie, as we knew her, was a rock at North Hampton school. She was vivacious, strong, fun and above all else kind! We never worried for our children, any of the children, while they were at school. Because we knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, she was there to take care of them whenever they needed her. She always had their best interest at heart be it physical or mental health or even putting their best foot forward in the annual school musicals.

Our prayers are with you all during this very difficult time. May the pain fade with time but the beautiful memories remain strong. The world will be a little darker but the heavens will shine bright! Please know, though she may have retired and moved on she will always be part of North Hampton's family. She will be missed.

Julie, Bob and their kids, my family, and the Lancaster's were Spring Street neighbors. I am sitting here in tears fondly remembering our summer afternoons sitting on the wall while our kids played in the street. It was a special time, a true neighborhood friendship with lots of love and laughs and wine and food. My favorite memory of Julie is from the day I found out I was pregnant with twins. When I went to her house to tell her, I was met with the most gleeful reaction and the biggest warmest hug that just warmed my soul. I am a proud owner of a Julie Cyr original painting that has been proudly hanging in my kitchen for 25 years. My heart goes out to her family, may you find comfort in each other and knowing she touched so many others lives so positively. Rest In Peace beautiful soul.
