David Drewry Obituary

David Paul Drewry

Our beloved Dave passed away on November 2, All Soul's Day, in Newhall, CA at age 57.

David was born on September 17, 1959 in Nashville, Tenn. He moved to Bellevue, WA with his family in 1966. The family lived in Sibleywood (Enatai area) for 40 years. Dave attended Bellevue Schools - Enatai Elementary, Bellevue Jr. High and Bellevue High School.

David was the consummate musician, he was a fantastic drummer and was part of the music scene in the Seattle area in the 1980's. Dave played locally with several bands namely The Pudz, The Dynette Set and The Moberlys. Dave moved to L.A. in the mid 1980's to become part of the music scene there. He enjoyed being a musician and with Dave it was all about the music. He played drums with several bands in the L.A. area and worked for a drum company which allowed him to meet musicians from all over.

Dave was predeceased by his father, Bob in 1999. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Crawford of Newhall, CA; his mother Irene V. Drewry of Bellevue, WA; his sister Leigh A. Drewry of Kihei, Maui; his uncles Pablo Vela of Brooklyn, NY, John Vela of Vero Beach, FL, his many friends in L.A, Seattle, Bellevue and his canine companion PAX.

David's wishes were that his body be donated for research for renal cancer in order to help others with this disease.

Celebrations of Dave's life are being planned in L.A. and in Seattle for the up-coming months.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), 290 Summer St, Yarmouth Port, Mass. 02675 (www.ifw.org) or a charity of choice.

One of the best Galdang drummers on the planet! I am sorry I didn't find out about your passing until almost a year later. Funny how sometimes you only meet someone through others (and the work you do) and leave a lasting impression on people that effects them for a lifetime. I'll miss ya Brother! Say "Hi" to Sean Flynn in the "Great Gig in the Sky" for me OK.

Dave was one of a limited number of people who played on my radio show so many times we joked that he should have a private parking space at the station! Every time I see a pre-1964 station wagon I think of him! It was always a pleasure to see Dave in person, online, at clubs, or wherever and especially to watch him play! My heart goes out to his family and friends, and pooch!

Far too young and far too cool to leave. Rest easy friend, may you be happily drumming with all your idols wherever you are now.
