John Moga Obituary

John A. Moga

John Alexander Moga, 79, died peacefully at Queen Anne Manor in Seattle, WA on December 23, 2016. John was born in Grand Forks, ND on May 23, 1937, the son of Alexander and Marian. During his childhood, the family lived in North Dakota, Wisconsin and Washington State. John attended Everett High School followed by Seattle University where he graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

Following graduation, John joined the Seattle office of Arthur Andersen & Co. where he had a distinguished 39 year career. During the 70's and 80's John led the growth of the AA&Co. consulting business unit (later Andersen Consulting, then Accenture) to be the largest of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. From 1986 to his retirement in 1999, John was the Managing Partner of the Pacific Northwest Arthur Andersen practice (Seattle, Portland and Boise offices). From 1999 until very recently John held various consulting roles with Hitachi Consulting, Robert A. Underhill, PC and West Monroe Partners. John is perhaps most well-known for his mentoring and development of countless individuals throughout his career who have gone on to have very successful careers of their own.

Throughout his career, John was extraordinarily committed to civic leadership. He served on the Seattle University Board of Regents and chaired the Accounting Associates Advisory Board. He was also an Emeritus Member of the Foster School of Business Advisory Board at the University of Washington. He is also well known for his decades long involvement with the Seattle Art Museum Board of Trustees where he is a past president and the Seattle Repertory Theater Board of Trustees where he was also president and treasurer.

John also served on the Seattle Chamber of Commerce and was a founding board member of Business Volunteers for the Arts. John is survived by his son David, daughter-in-law Janet, granddaughters Zoe and Ava; his brother Bill and sister Patricia; nieces and nephews Steven, Erik, Catherine, Michael and Kristi. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary.

Visitation followed by a vigil service will be held from

John was both a true leader and a gentleman in every sense of the word. He knew how to help everyone get the best out of them and to create their own successes. He often knew the answer but would "lead" you and allow you to figure it out for yourself. He helped everyone he knew grow and be the best he could be. It was an honor to work for him and know him as an individual. He was a man of integrity and character...which is the most any of us can hope and desire in our own legacy. Thank you John for helping me find my way and grow beyond where I thought I could go in life. You will be missed by thousands but remembered by everyone you touched in your life.

In shock. Barbarann just passed away this morning, and I was calling John to see how he was and his phone was disconnected, google searched his name and found his obituary. Very sorry for your loss. John was a great man. I had the pleasure of meeting him while doing all his lighting at his Rancho Mirage home and became friends with him and Barbarann. Finding out today that both of them have passed away is devestating. Please know that he is resting in peace.

Dear Moga Family,

We were so saddened to hear of John's passing. He was such a kind, fair, honest, happy man who loved life (and wine as I recall!)

He was a blessing to the Firm and to his friends and family. Our prayers are with you.

Elizabeth Graham Giroir and the entire family of H D "Von" Graham, his friend at Arthur Andersen and now his friend in heaven.

I am so sad to hear of John's passing. I have been praying for a miracle because he certainly deserved one. I will always remember him as a very warm person who was extremely intelligent, hardworking and generous and a connoisseur of fine wines. He was taken too soon. I am sending my sincere thoughts and prayers to all his family.

To the family of John Moga,

I am so sorry to learn of John's passing. It came as quite a shock as his Gemini spirit and tenaciousness, I thought, would have served him well into his 100's! His kindness, energy and charisma came across to all of those who knew him, and he will be missed.

I send my sympathy to his whole family.

Sincerely,
Virginia Accetta
