Candice Populus Obituary
Candice Rosenberg Populus, "Candy Jr", was born in Seattle, Washington where her heart will always lie. She was a Seattle girl forever. She loved her Huskies and Seahawks just like her father, Leslie who passed away from Covid this April. Candy attended the Bush School and again followed in her father's footsteps by attending Franklin High School. She had a wild quick stint at UNLV, and then settled into Real Estate for several years before finding her passion as a para educator. Her doting grandparents, Maxine and Herman Blumenthal instilled in her a sense of obligation to Seattle philanthropy. She loved to work with Poncho for the arts and was involved in ARCS (Achievement Rewards of College Scientists), that her grandmother was a founding member of.
In 2005, Candy married Ernest Populus in Maui, HI. Together they had one son Ernest Gabriel "Gabe". They divorced, but still held the most love for each other and their beloved son.
Although she lived and breathed football, her son was her world, who she hopes will be a football player someday. She is so proud of her "gentle giant." She loved to bring him to Sun Valley and watch him ski and find a love for nature as well as spend time with her adoring sister, Brandelyn Maxine Rosenberg "Brandy".
Candice who was known as Candy Jr., little Cand, Sissy, Junior, CJ, was full of life and fun. She loved her family and cared about tradition and family legacy. She was tall and beautiful with the softest skin, she was born with lips to die for and loved to lather them with lip gloss. She was passionate, protective, quick witted, hilarious, and truly ONE-OF-A-KIND. She was the sweetest soul and would cry every time she watched Sixteen Candles.
Candy was preceded in death by her father, Leslie Rosenberg, her aunt Lynn Blumenthal, her grandmother Eleanor Veronica Anderson, grandfather Roland Anderson "Andy", and grandparents Herman and Maxine Blumenthal. Candy is survived by her mother, Candice Rosenberg Peterson, step-father Barry Peterson, her son Ernest Gabriel Populus, her sister Brandelyn Maxine Rosenberg, step-sister Katherine Peterson and step-brothers, Robert Reed Peterson and Alan Beamon. She is also survived by her uncle Peter Rosenberg and aunts Kathy Murphy, Cathy Campo, and Sandy Moss.
The family will hold a small private graveside ceremony at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday August 5, 2020, in the Ketchum Cemetery.

Candy, not sure where to begin, but thank you for being such an authentic and real friend. Your spirit and light is like no other! I loved that you never judged anyone. Our beautiful angel Candy. We had many years of fun celebrating bdays and holidays. She was the daughter I never had. She loved me dressing her up helping with all of her Holiday gifts and loved my sales. I think about you every day and wish I could pick up the phone to tell you how much I love you. you will always be in my heart Ernie is doing a great job with Gabe. He's got your height and heart. Will always remember great Husky game tailgates, laughs, dance parties, and all the rest. Candy was always willing to invite her people to join. And always made the party great! She is so missed, but I know how proud she would be of her son Gabe and all that he is striving towards.

Candy, there's not a day that goes by where you are not thought about, loved and remembered. Every time I look at my son, I always see that part of you that lives on. Gabe, our beautiful son, is doing absolutely amazing, just about to start his freshman year at O'Dea and is turning out to be an outstanding football player like he wants and you have always wanted. That is a huge motivator of him wanting to excel and make you proud. I know you and your father are watching over him and enjoying every second. Also the fact that he is now a 6'3 225lb stud, I'm sure you would be absolutely over the moon about how he definitely has YOUR height

Dear Candy,
We were partners, working closely alongside each other for the last year. We connected over our boys. You always showed pure joy when sharing stories about your precious son and all the things you two were doing together. Usually our personal conversations were about our kids and I learned so much about football from you.
You were a beautiful person. I was always amazed at how perfectly you put lipstick on without even looking in the mirror.

I hired Candy a few years ago to work as a paraeducator. She was wonderful with the students and brought her kindness, excitement, and joy to the school everyday. She and I always found some time to talk about the Dawgs together. It's a sad day in Huskyville. Candy, you will be sorely missed and will always be in our hearts.
