George Holland Obituary

George O.

Holland, CLU

November 19, 1926-October 30, 2017

George, the quintessential gentleman, was born to Ole and Gunhild in Everett, Washington. George graduated from Everett High School and then attended Everett Community College. He joined the army infantry in 1944 and served in Japan during the Occupation where he perfected his golf game! Upon his return to Washington, George attended Everett Junior College and played for their golf team. George attended the University of Washington and joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and played golf for the UW golf team. While attending the UW, George met Diana Thorp and they were married on July 18, 1953. They lived in Rochester, NY for a year and moved back to Seattle where they raised three sons; Chip, Chris and Peter.

George had a successful career in the insurance industry as a General Agent for both Union Mutual (UNUM) and The Guardian. George also supported various community Boards including Chairman of the Board, NW Hospital, Board of Directors, Home Street Bank and Board of March of Dimes.

Beyond his family, George's lifelong passion was golf. According to George, "Golf changed my life, opened doors and created opportunities". George held leadership roles including President of both Overlake Golf & Country Club and Seattle Golf Club and Director of the Washington State Golf Association (WSGA). George also was bestowed many honors, the most cherished of these would include being inducted into the Hall of Fame at the PNGA, the Caddie Hall of Fame and Everett CC Hall of Fame. The Evan's Scholar program was near and dear to his heart as that is how he found the game of golf; as a caddie at the age of 13 at Everett Golf and CC.

Family was everything to George! He loved his wife and their three boys, and his grandchildren Allison, Blakeley, Greggor and Haley, John and Hannah.

George is pre-deceased by his parents, Ole & Gunhild and brothers Robert and Ed. He is survived by his bride of 64 years, Diana, sons Chip (Teresa), Chris and Peter and his grandchildren Allison (Sean), Blakeley, Greggor, Haley, John and Hannah.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Evan's Scholars Foundation in his honor (1 Briar Rd. Golf, IL 60029).

Dear Diana and family,

Was deeply saddened recently to find out of Georges passing. My apologies to Diana for this late message.

I feel honored to have had the privilege of knowing George for almost 25 years, mainly associate with golf. It can be said, once you were a friend of George you were always a friend. One'station if life was immaterial, a common message was " we have a tee time at 1230, can you join us ".

Always a gentleman to all, George had a quiet voice, offered encouragement when needed but never judgemental.

I will miss our fiendship, conversations and his sage advice.

One of the first USSGA members from the Pacific NW George was the epitome of what a Senior is supposed to be. George was truly a delight to be with on and off the golf course. He was a good friend and mentor to me and will be missed by all. Bruce Richards
