Keith Mead Obituary

Keith Anthony Mead

Keith Anthony Mead, 79, of Fircrest, Washington peacefully entered his new life on Saturday, July 7 due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. Born in Chicago, Illinois on September 16, 1932 Keith spent his life loving and caring for his family and friends. He attended grade school in Decatur, Illinois while living with his grandmother, Emma Bomgardner, and graduated from St. Francis Xavier Academy in Denison, Texas under the care of his foster parents, William and Mary Mead. Employment opportunities at the Bremerton Naval Shipyards brought the family to the Pacific Northwest. He then enlisted in the US Navy and served as a sonarman during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he attended Olympic Community College, Seattle University and St. Thomas Seminary where he earned a Bachelor's degree in philosophy in 1962. After leaving the seminary, Keith began his career at Boeing where he met his first wife, Roseline Trujillo. After her tragic death in a car accident in 1977, Keith, with the help of friends, cared for his six children who survive him: Letha Mead of Seattle, Carla (Charles) Barokas of Mercer Island, Gloria (Don) Cole of Snoqualmie, Joanna Mead of Seattle, Pamela Mead of Burien and Keith Anthony Mead, Jr. of Federal Way. In 1981 Keith married Imelda Aguirre, the principal of his children's elementary school. He is survived by her and their three children: David, Michael and Caitlin Mead of Bellevue, West Seattle, and Seattle respectively. He is also survived by eight grandchildren. Keith's many joys included his Catholic faith, his nine children, music and dancing, reading and discussing politics, and entertaining friends and family. He retired from the Boeing Company in 1995 as a foreign tax administrator whose main responsibility was to resolve tax-related issues for employees who worked overseas for Boeing. He enjoyed his work in Human Resources, particularly when it involved traveling to Europe and Saudi Arabia and solving complicated tax problems for Boeing employees. Vigil service will be held on July 12 at 7:00 pm and Mass of Christian Burial, July 13 at 12:10 pm at St. Leo Church in Tacoma, Washington. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Keith's name to the Food Connection's "Fork It Over" campaign (www.foodconnection.org) or to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org/donate).

Dearest Imelda,
You and Keith and the children have remained in my prayers throughout Keith's illness. I am so sorry for your loss. Keith was a wonderful man--so caring and thoughtful. He was humble and I was always moved by his devotion to family and his beautiful heart. Love to you now and always.

Dearest Imelda, (and family) my friend of more than 50 years....how sorry I am to hear of Keith's passing, and remember how truly in love with him you were from when you first told me about your marriage. I know that in the ensuing 30 yrs, I know that that love endures, and want to talk with you after several years of just living our separate, busy lives and the distance. May His Spirit hold you in his wings while you pass through this difficult time.
