Laura Seznick Obituary

Laura (Maki) SEZNICK Age 87. Passed away January 13, 2006 from complications from a stroke. Laura was born December 7, 1918 in Rosland, BC. She was born to parents, Jack and Hilda Maki who emigrated from Finland in the early 1900's. Most of her childhood was spent in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle. Laura attended Garfield High School where she graduated in 1937. She was very active in all school activities as well as the local Finish community where her parents, Jack and Hilda were prominent members. Laura met her husband, Peter Seznick in Seattle in 1942 while Peter was on leave from the Navy. Peter was stationed onboard the Battleship USS Nevada which was in Seattle for repairs for damage it sustained during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Peter originally from Utica, NY never went back to NY after meeting Laura. Their's was a true Love Affair. After their marriage they bought property in the Blue Ridge community in North Seattle and proceeded to build their first dream home. After 3 children came along they needed a larger home and built their next dream home in Crown Hill. After they both retired in the early 1970's, from working for the US Government at Pier 91, they began to travel throughout the US and the Globe. They always enjoyed the adventures of travel. Laura was instrumental in organizing the Garfield Golden Grads, an organization for raising scholarship money for students of Garfield High School. GGG had been a major part of her life and the success of it has left her a great Legacy and a fine model for other schools to follow. Laura was also a very active member of the Seattle chapter of Vasa Hope, Gamma Gamma, Elks and Pearl Harbor Survivors. There marriage was one of total bliss for 60 years until Peter passed away in 2003. Laura is survived by 3 children, Joan Dotson (husband, Royal-deceased), Nancy Maier (husband, John) and Jack Seznick (wife, Vicki) all of Seattle. Laura is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor, Monday January 23, 2006, 1:00 p.m., at the Blue Ridge Community Clubhouse, 10040 15th Ave NW, Seattle. WA. 98177. The very first time I met Laura, I knew immediately that she was a gracious, kind and loving woman with a warm smile and a deep love for her family. I'm sure that no one that knew Laura will ever forget her and the joy she brought to so many.

My thoughts and prayers are with Laura's family during this time of sorrow. I am very lucky to have known Laura and Peter and to have spent time with them both. Their love was contagious! My deepest regrets to all of the Seznick family. Laura and Peter were our neighbors of 14 years but more than that, they were our very good friends. Their home was always open to anyone . We should all be greatful for their love and support and the happiness and laughter they shared with family and friends. They will be missed very much. With great love and respect for Peter and Laura, we wish their families wonderful memories.. Bob and Judy Smyth
