Johannne NOLL Age 83, of Seattle Washington, died peacefully with her husband of 62 years by her side. She was born August 31, 1927 in Copenhagen, Denmark, the fourth of nine daughters of Severin Bindesboll and Agnes nee Hauge. After completing her education at Nakskov's Gymnasium in 1945, Johanne worked as a lab technician at the State Serum Institute in Copenhagen where she met Hans Noll of Basel, Switzerland. They married in January 1949 and soon became a family with a daughter and a son. They came to the USA in 1951, as Hans pursued his career in molecular biology and here their family grew with the addition of two daughters. They lived in New Rochelle,NY, and moved in 1956 to Pittsburgh, PA and settled 1965 in Evanston, IL for 27 years. As a devoted mother and grandmother, Johanne shared her love of music and art and the outdoors with her children and grandchildren. She also encouraged them to read, develop their imaginations, and pursue their talents. Her characteristic boundless energy also made her an artful homemaker, gracious hostess and a passionate gardener. She enjoyed traveling and visiting her European family, downhill skiing, hiking, and was a fearless mountain climber in Switzerland. While Johanne lived in Evanston, IL she devoted many volunteer hours to the local Head start program, the Orrington School PTA, and an after school program for elementary students. One of her very favorite activities was singing with her friends at the North Shore Choral Society. Her longtime involvement in the League of Women Voters eventually led to a job at the City Clerk's office of Evanston. At age 50, Johanne pursued her dream of becoming a pilot and joined the Ninety-Nines, an International Organization for Women Pilots. She was a member of the Aux Plaines Chapter in the Chicago area, earning her Private and Instrument rating at Palwaukee Airport. Upon retirement the family moved to Ballard, Seattle where she loved the magnificent views the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound. More recently Johanne discovered a talent for and a joy in watercolor painting with her friends at Elderwise. She was happiest around her family, in her garden and when flying. She is survived by five sisters, her husband, Hans; her children: Kirsten Noll (Joseph Schafer), Sandpoint, ID; Lucas Noll, Honolulu, HI; Katharine Noll (Frank Bryan), Boulder, CO; Elizabeth Noll (Bill Suhr), Seattle, WA; four grandchildren: Jesse Seidman (Holly), Isabel Suhr, Christoph Suhr, Ophelia Bryan, two great grandchildren: Nicholas and Ella Seidman, and her "flying sister" and best friend, Antonia Reinhard. Family and friends are sadly missing Johanne for her kindness, generosity, sparkling energy and unfailing sense of humor. Dear Hans,
By a crazy coincidence, I saw Johanne's obituary. I remember her as a beautiful young woman -- well, we were all young then!
I am terribly sorry to hear of her death and your bereavement. Although I have experienced the same loss, every one's grief is different and there is really nothing meaningful anyone can say except -- I am very sorry and I wish you the best.

Johanne was a wonderful neighbor. Sharing peony tubers, plant wisdom and tours of her beautiful garden which I get to look at every day. Watching her play with her grandchildren as they grew was a constant joy. A positive energy - a strong and wonderful person. We will miss her.
