Betty Fitzgerald Obituary

Betty Jo Fitzgerald

Betty Jo Fitzgerald, 72, died at home in Colfax, WA June 11, 2014. Betty was born in Colusa, California. She received her MS Degree at University of California Chico and a Masters Degree in Botany from the University of Washington in 1966. Betty taught in her field at Seattle University and was a founding member of the Washington Native Plant Society. In 1978, Betty Jo began to pursue her interest in art, leading to a long career as an artist and teacher. One of her great pleasures was introducing others to the joy of painting, collage, and other water media forms of expression. Her honors include: Nomination to Who's Who in American Art; Signature Member in the National Collage Society and Northwest Watercolor Society; Terms as President of both NWWS and Women Painters of Washington as well as the NWWS Foundation. Fitzgerald is survived by Dr. James Fitzgerald, her husband of 48 years, daughter Molly Keogh, and son Brant and their families. No formal service will be held, but donations in her name may be made to: Women Painters of Washington Mixed Media Award or Colfax Arts Council.
