Rex Mudd Obituary
Rex Mudd, 71, of Redmond, WA, passed away Thursday, August 13.
Rex was born in Smmerda, Germany on August 27, 1943, the son of Charlotte Klaubel and Rex Mudd, Sr. As World War II ended, Rex and his mother left Germany to join his father in the United States to begin a new life.
Rex graduated from Pius X High School in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1961 and enrolled immediately at the University of Nebraska where he received a B.S. in Business.
In 1973, Rex founded Marci Jewelry in his new favorite part of the country, the beautiful Pacific Northwest. For 42 years he devoted his time and love to its success and it remained one of his dearest passions.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Rex loved horses. In 1994, Rex's good mare, Jessie Janey, was awarded "Most Improved Plater" by the prestigious Washington Thoroughbred Breeders' Association, and in 1997, Rex's Hoopstar was named "Washington Handicap Horse of the Year" at Emerald Downs. These two racing accomplishments are rare in the racing world.
Throughout his life, Rex maintained a strong connection to his roots in Nebraska and specifically to his high school. He was honored to establish the "Golden Spoon Scholarship" providing tuition for youth to attend his alma mater, Pius X.
Rex was a devout Catholic. He was the ultimate, enthusiastic connoisseur. Rex adamantly shared his opinions and passions with friends and colleagues - agree with him or not, his love for you was unwavering.
He loved to travel and took many adventures throughout the world with the love of his life, Lorri, who helped him get his wings.
Rex is survived by wife, Lorri Mudd; son, Mike Mudd and his wife, Jenny; granddaughter, Makena; niece, Briannah Wayman; sisters Rita Wayman and Lisa Mudd; and nephew Larry Powell. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Heart Association - www.heart.org
A service Mass will be held at St. James Cathedral at 10:30am on Monday, August 24th with a reception to follow, also at St. James, 804 9th Ave. Seattle, WA 98104.

Lorri and Family, I just heard that Rex had passed in the last month. My memories are many and all happy. Rex, at Marci's making the beautiful ring for my Genesis. The horse races all across the West Coast, the love of his family and the hugs he shared with my family. I will miss this man and you all that are apart of him know how proud you can be! Although I just barely got to know Rex, what a gift it was to be able to work with him as his PT over the last year. He had such a huge light and spirit who clearly loved life, family and friends. I wish I could have met him earlier, he is definitely one of the gems, the rare few true characters. I so enjoyed our conversations, he made me feel like his friend. Take time for yourselves, remember and live by his amazing

Rex and I date way back. He and I trained to be stockbrokers at Dean Witter back in the mid 60s in San Francisco. I didn't see him again until we had jewelry booths next to each other at the Seattle Trade Center. He was a good man, a good friend and I and others in the business will miss him. My condolences to all of Rex's family. I owned and operated Belgate Printing in Bellevue for many years. Rex and Marci Jewelry were one of our best and favorite customers. Rex was a good businessman and treated myself and my employees well and with respect. He will be missed.
